Hello everyone,

I'm taking delivery of a Taycan 4S soon. The car is optioned with 21 inch mission E wheels. The dealership is pushing for me to get Tire and wheel protection for CAD $2000 /year. I don't track, but I live in Montreal, so the roads are not the best. However, to date I never had a cracked wheel or popped tire on any of my previous cars (BMW's/Landrover's). I'm not sure if these wheels and tires have the tendency to crack or pop considering the car is quite heavy? Is anyone experiencing wheel cracks often on these cars?

Just trying to gauge whether to purchase the insurance or not.

Many thanks

2k CAD per year??? That sounds super high. I paid around $2500 for 5 years. I have had countless replacement tires due to nails, and 1 cracked rim on my 911 so the insurance paid for itself. I have only had one tire replacement on the Taycan and no rim damage yet.

2k/year is expensive. 2-3k usually covers 4-5 years. The price is negotiable. I passed on my dealer's offer at the time, but I wish I would've taken the protection. 30k miles in and my Mission E has nicks and scratches from rocks, etc--not to mention I've curbed one wheel while trying to decide whether I wanted to parallel park or just go up the driveway ?

Thank you for sharing. I also think it’s way too expensive. I’ll try to negotiate.

I think it is a very good investment to get the tire and wheel protection plan.
Over here in the states they cost me over $5000
I had to replace one tire and repair the wheel it cost me only $50 per occurrence.

Since you are purchasing the car brand-new have already placed the order I was wondering whether he should customize their mission wheels with the body color.

I did not do so.

I had some wheel with summer tyre. Dealer here(Toronto downtown) quoted me around 800 CAD for a tyre replacement(front). You can decide if the plan is worth it or not. I used to buy those plans but now I just do pay as you go. Dealer even told me if I'm unsatisfied with the quote I can bring the tyre and they will do the installation as long as it's Porsche rated tyre with original spec.

I personally think Montreal has much more pothole, but average speed is much slower than Toronto. I drove to Montreal with my 21 inch once, I don't think my tyre got damaged there.

In Canada at least from the dealer I purchased my car, they were not interested in negotiation at all. Take it or leave it it's what they suggested.
