ahem - we're off topic by a long ways - I prefer the part of the conversation where people were telling each other how bad phone-as-key is/was/is-going-to-be and that it will suck and they never are going to use it.

way way way better than geo-market-politics.
The only reason I went for a Taycan instead second-hand, first-year Model 3 was that it didn’t offer the phone-as-key feature.
There.

don't forget totally 100% insecure and will strand you in a parking garage with no internet and hackers that steal your phone now can steal your car.

I don’t understand your rabid-ness about the phone-key thing. Your original point was that VAG was behind in software-based features, and they may be heading for a market share drop. I agree with that. You also chose to focus on a single feature, phone-as-key, which frankly a lot of poeple are just ho-hum about not having. I pointed out my personal reasons for why I prefer fobs for reasons of personal security at remote driving locations, after which your next post was aggressive (something like “keep pretending you won’t like phone-as-key”).

It is not my fault that apparently Porsche makes the only fob-equipped cars without a backup means of starting the car (my BMWs have a special antenna in the steering column that you place the fob next to, probably an RFID based system that only works after unlocking the car with the hidden physical key). That is stupid of Porsche. Also, apparently Porsche fobs tend to use up battery very quickly, another misstep.

Sure phone as key is convenient, but like I said, that isn’t even on my radar as a buying decision. I pay more attention to features like push-to-pass and active ride, ACC and lane keeping. And frankly, if the Porsche app can’t even reliably let me check the battery, adjust the temperature or operate the remote parking, it’s probably best that it not operate the central locking or driving enable.

I think what you really want is to get back to the topic of VAG behind behind the curve, not brawling over convincing the forum that phone-as-key is the must-have for every single person. As an indicator of Porsche slipping behind, yes it may be significant.

There.
And the reason you didn't go for a Model S (which did not have phone as key until relatively recently) was? ;)

Ok, those who are die hard fans of the phone as key for their Taycans, how much are you willing to pay for it as a retrofit?

I'm pretty sure people used it as an example of Porsche refusing to add basic features that most new Kia cars have :)

Don't go about it being not perfect, with potential risks and whatever. I can come with an antena outside your house, amplify the signal of your key, unlock the car and start it and go (how most cars are getting stolen in EU & UK)... Nothing is perfect. That is no excuse

Why do I have to pay a yearly subscription of close to 300$ to use Spotify, when it takes around 3 minutes for spotify to boot up, on the 3rd or 4th try after it didn't start the first 2-3 times?
Meanwhile Kia gets it for free and works perfectly. That's what people are talking about :)

I just use Apple CarPlay for Spotify playback. The Porsche client died for me long ago (it would show what is playing, but hitting play did nothing - one time I got a message another device was in use, while I never used it outside of the car). Now that I use the phone app, it's easy to start it via Apple CarPlay, and after that, it even shows up under the car's Media tab too, but as Apple CarPlay music, not Spotify.
