First to market. Seems to be about 60% of the weight/kwh of other chemistry; so quite a bit more dense (360 WH/kg). The full 150kwh module weighs 676 kg (with enclosure, 575kg without)

For comparision, tesla LFP 57.5 kWh weighs 480 kg; and NMC 82kWh at 479 kg; and Taycan 93,4 kWh is 630 kg.

Their first module is 150kwh; with a real world range of 891km ( 1055 km claimed by NIO) or 557 miles. Impressive, as this is without any improvements to drive train efficiency, which are very inefficient when compared even to a taycan; extremely inefficient when compare to Lucid drive train.

All NIO cars and batteries are swap-able, so any old NIO can swap in this new battery. So a 2018 NIO can use this brand new battery and get 730km of claimed range..

Curious what a competent drive train, like Lucid, with a battery like this could achieve. Probably over 800 miles.

Assuming longevity (high cycle count) and minimal fire risk are both there, seems to me 100kwh with 60pct the weight may be the sweet spot. Higher efficiency w/ less weight to lug around, lighter car with same hp =faster car.

Exciting…

To add, the cost of the battery is estimated at 42.000$. Not for sale.

NIO is renting is by day for 24$/day, in any of their cars, as all of their cars support swapable batteries, and the whole idea of NIO cars is to swap rather than re-charge (it is also faster to swap the battery; what Porsche needs 2-3 weeks to do, NIO does automatically in 2-3 minutes)

at 24$ / day; for 891km, with Chinese energy prices, it's no exactly cheap. But rental prices are likely do go down as availability increases; and whole-sale prices might go down as yield rates improve

I suppose I shouldn’t hold my breath that there will be a replacement battery for my 2021 Taycan in the next 6+ years after my warranty expires.
It is not likely Porsche will make any new battery designs backward compatible to their on board charging systems when they adopt newer, longer range, higher energy density battery technologies…
I can always dream…

We are seeing a real leap in technological advances in battery design now. NIO is the one!

A plug and play 150kWh battery that can be swapped out in minutes! Think what that would have done for @Maelstrom 's woes if Porsche could have done this!

And look at how the modular design allows for defective cells to be swapped out quickly. I fear Porsche is really being left behind here.

It would've definitely helped with my hair reduction levels ?

Very exciting stuff. So in theory, applying this tech to a battery our size would take ~460lbs out of our cars... so a lighter car that will both be faster and more efficient with more range? Sign me up.

Very interesting development if this becomes common for NIO. As said above, compare that with Porsche several weeks time to change battery.

I will be interested to see how NIO handle the battery degradation of the battery packs in years to come?

I fear that the Chinese car manufacturers are having the German car manufacturers for breakfast now.

Yes, Chinese manufacturers are way ahead. And the quality of materials used is impressive as well.
Went to Xpeng showroom to check the G9 for a friend and I was very impressed by interior materials.
