Hi, now it's getting colder in the UK, what's the best way to preheat / demist my car? Ideally, I want a short 10 min or other user defined time.

- Using the app starts a 1 hour preheat process. Which is too much, and there's no point in wasting the battery's charge.
- If I open unlock my car, it does a 5 min preheat. But I don't want to leave it unlocked.

So, what's the best / easiest way to do a user defined preheat period?

Can only be done via the app. Ideally, set pre-heat as part of the charging process and departure time such that your 'ready by' will be not only charged but cabin warmed up.

If you can't do this then do as you are doing and start the process 10 mins before you leave the house and then cancel (if needed) on the control panel when in the car.

The preheat on unlock is a tad annoying (for me) so I've disabled it entirely.

I just launch the pre heat via the application 10-15min before my departure. It stops once I open the door & turn on the vehicle. It's quite easy, you only need to remember doing it every morning.

As above, I just load the app and tap about 5-10 mins before I'm due to leave

I've found that that driving the car doesn't always stop the app preheat.
My drive to work is short, 10 mins, and I sometimes get a message via the app 1 hour after the preheat started to say it's complete.
Seems a wasteful way to use the battery charge.

Tap the button on the lower panel when you set off to cancel.

I noticed this too, it does NOT cancel when you get in and drive, you have to switch it off from the app, it toggles between off and on.
I switch on 10 minutes before leaving and off as I walk to my car.

Another example of sloppy software that should have had an OTAU many years' ago.

Started to use the Porsche App on my apple watch to do the pre heating.
However, probably 2 out of 3 days the app will only work if I first open the iPhone app. Which rather defeats the objective of a Watch app.
However, when the Watch app does work, it's great and very convenient.

Am I correct in saying you need to pay the £269 per year for connect services to be able to use the preheat via the app?

If the car is plugged in, the most optimal (at least for me) way is to set a pre-conditioning timer on the app for when you want to depart. I do this instead of just starting the pre-conditioning manually, even when setting it only minutes prior to departure. Why? Because Porsche sucks at software and apparently two different teams who don't talk to each other implemented manual preconditioning and timer based pre-conditioning. Manual pre-conditioning uses battery power (draining the battery before departure, adding to battery aging charge cycles), while the timer based one uses shore power (straight from the EVSE plugged into the car) without draining the battery. Sure, they could have just copied what Tesla has been doing for over a decade, but you know Porsche, they always prefer to learn on their own mistakes - too proud to learn from others.
