Looking to buy a Turbo S tacan, have the option to get a 2021 for a lesser price well equipped and 1 owner history. Are there any major differences between the 2 model years, as I believe some of the software was updated in 2022 models. Did the 21's get the same updates?

Softwarewise they will be the same. Further tweaking of the drive trains (no discernable benefit) as mentioned.

No hardware change for MY22 model over MY21 however main update with MY22 is the ability to decouple the motor when coasting or at a stop to save on battery and the addition of Android Auto

Evem my20 has android auto and motor bias for the rear during coasting. It's not a full decoupling as the article says, as the car always has some sort of regen going on even when coasting.

The only differences are between my20 and my21, and are related to ECU that handles locking of the car, as my20 can't lock/unlock from the app; and to plug & charge module which was not avaliable on 11kw my20, only on 22kw equipped my20s.
Aditionally, underneath the car, the replaced the valves system handling battery cooling with a monoblock.

Between my21 and my22 there are no changes that would be noticed by the driver.

All cars from MY20 to MY22 were tweaked and in particular the dual motor models. This coincided with Porsche meddling with the Range drive mode which historically disabled the rear motor and used the front for "additional range" which was then abandoned to make these cars always rear wheel drive biased.

Temperatures make a difference too and in lower temps both motors may provide drive.

In summary no advantage in MYs either way. Real change with MY25.

Buy whichever has the better options for you. No difference between the model 21-22 model years. All J1.1 Taycans run on the same software version. Also go cpo
