They're writing off 1.8bn Euros for rescheduling the new BEV platform...

Ouch.

One assumes "rescheduling" either means a long kick down the road, or one of their other stbale/partnerships will be doing it instead.

I guess if the bigger markets halt their ZEV mandates this might end up being a great decision. But I don't see Europe doing that...

I assume this was the news: https://carbuzz.com/combustion-porsche-718-cayman-boxster-saved/

Looks like EVs are no longer a priority at porsche; all future EV models are to be delayed, focus to be shifted to ICE cars and platforms.

New 718/cayman to be ICE.
No more taycan by the looks of it, just panamera ICE and hybrid.

The “718” EV that is supposed to release soon is no longer going to be called 718 / cayman, and will take a new name, undecided yet.

New biggest SUV, K1, that was in development as EV no longer to be released as EV, platform to be changed to be ICE.

By all means, EVs are dead at Porsche, all EVs investments are on freeze.

Investors announced 8bil revenue loses following strategy shift back to ICE

So when Blume said “our strategy no longer works”; he ment that their EVs are shit, and they are running back to ICE with tail between their legs, as a strategy “shift”.

the board members from Blockbuster, ERON, and Blackberry are cheering Porsche on…and approve of this approach.

No more taycan by the looks of it,
this is what I have heard…

I've heard for multiple sources this is true - but none that are important enough to take as 100% _FACT_, but given Porsche's return to the past and their love for all things EV I find this turn of events disappointing but unsurprising…EV's are not the problem - Porsche is the problem - it's EV's that are running circles around them in China - so EV's can sell, it's Porsche that can't seem to adapt…

if true - I'll be sad but will move on to a vendor that embraces the future rather than pursing the past…

.

The writing was on the wall.

Another dealer I spoke to said a few larger dealers got together and wouldn't except any Taycans without heavy incentives.

With the US policy change, I purchased my Taycan because It was going to be the last Porsche EV for a long time.

This would imply that it’s the dealership model that is failing Porsche (training/retaining staff for EV sales and service is not something they interested in, they’d rather stick with what they’ve done over the last century), or perhaps Porsche’s pricing is too high as compared to other EVs on the market. Probably both.

Porsche Taycan [opinion] - hmmm…VW/Audi/Porsche may be in trouble… 1758410275591-uc

I don't see anything in this statement that indicates there will be no more Taycans.

dealers tells me a different story - order one now if you want one … Porsche is eye'ing the Taycan space in stuttgart to increase production of other types of vehicles - opportunity cost - opportunity cost - every Taycan that rolls off the line is not a 911/718 produced…

I take US dealer rumors as pure noise.

All the elements available point to SSP being put on hold to redeploy resources on a K1 ICE & PHEVs, which means that a Taycan J1.3 is a much more likely outcome than a bona fide J2.

Porsche abandoning the Taycan is pure fantasy.

I'm sure there are other reasons they are finding it hard to compete, but retreating to old tech seems like such a short term solution. How many people still buy luxury horse drawn wagons today? Sure, the profit margins on those are ridiculous, but the volumes are extremely niche. Porsche already proved to themselves that the exclusivity badge is not enough to make a lot of money anymore (China market), but rather that try to compete, they will instead revert to building collectibles? They built their consumer reputation on performance cars for the street, but if a $75k car from modern manufacturers leaves every Porsche it its rear view mirror, and it will keep up with the 718 around the first corner, and will offer much more modern user experience with latest trend integrations (things like phone as key, OTA updates to latest), I am not sure even the status symbol / garage decoration prop market will hold up for them. Heck, the average status symbol guys are the ones who want to be able to leave everyone in the rear view mirror from a red light, just to show off. Making a lot of noise at the light and being the last one behind a pack of family haulers doesn't offer the ego boost that people who buy status symbols like.

It seems the new Porsche strategy is to maximize profit from existing technologies, thottle innovation/R&D spending. What is next, VWAG acquiring Rivian or Lucid, Porsche slapping their badge on reskinned flagship car from that company? Maybe it will be called PORSCHE, just like AUDI brand (which is a spinoff from Audi).
