Just traded in my Ford for a Porsche. I honestly loved my Mach E but was looking for something nicer. Found a great deal on a 24 Taycan 4S. Looking forward to learning more about the car with you.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the Mach E. Spent a ton of time on the forums there. Not sure if there is much Taycan crossover people but you never know! I had 3 Mustangs but down to two now.

I'm also curious to hear a comparison. I just test drove a used Taycan Cross Turismo at one of our local Ford dealerships, and they said someone traded it in on a Mach-E. I couldn't imagine why.

I also have a GTPE. The MachE is faster in a straight line, but the suspension is harsh. The wheels are also skinny for such a heavy SUV, hence it doesn't stick well, but does great 4 wheel drift. The interior is fine, not luxurious, but sporty enough.

Overall, the Taycan is a nice car, feels more solid and refine.

Although the dealership facility is not as nice as Porsche, I feel that they are more responsive.

Given this is just a preliminary comparison as I’m only on day two of the Taycan and drove the Mach E GTPE for 4 years.

I’ll start with what the pros are for the Ford-

Size- The Mach E has significantly more room inside. Larger back seat, more rear space, larger frunk, tons of storage in the center console, in front and under the console.

Ergonomics- It’s also significantly easier to get in and out of, so the ergonomics are just better. Everything is easy to see and reach. The little things that are convenient- sunglass holder, homelink buttons on the visor.

Screen- while it only has one in front of the driver and another in the middle, the middle one is HUGE. 360 cameras view is great and everything isn’t warped (unlike every other 360 view in other cars). The 4S has the tech package so I have 4 screens, but the steering wheel blocks a lot of the info on the driver screen and the main one in the middle is too small to have as good of a 360 view. The Mach E screen also responds about twice as fast to inputs.

Drive- The Mach E is a lot more responsive from a stop to about 30 mph. I think it’s due to the 400v architecture. They have more torque but lose power at higher speeds vs the more linear delivery of the Taycan.

Seat comfort is a wash between the two but I appreciate being in leather seats again vs the vegan Ford seats.

Handling between the two is surprisingly similar. The Mach E actually weighs less but is taller (even though the ground clearance difference is pretty close). Taycan seems to be able to feel more planted when pushing it though.

Stereo- the Bose is definitely better than the B&O in the Ford.

Features/luxury- obvious win for the Porsche

Ride quality- no comparison, the Porsche is significantly better. The magneride in the Ford is geared towards handling and the shocks have very little travel. So it does great if you want it stiff, but the whisper (softest setting) is just bouncy. The air suspension on the Porsche does way better with rough roads and speed bumps.

Any acceleration above 30 mph the 4S is definitely faster. Now if I had a 2024+ Mach E GT, they fixed that issue. Mine was 0-60 in 3.5 but by 40 mph it was already slowing down and by 70 mph plus it falls on its face. Thats why it could run a 12.2 in the 1/4 mile but only at 102 mph. The 2024+ runs an 11.8 at 114 mph.

Price- the Mach E both new and used is significantly cheaper. Less than half the price of a 4S.

Fun to drive- honestly a toss up at this point. The immediate punch of the Mach E still put a smile on my face after 4 years. The throttle response in sport plus on the 4S reminds me of the slowest response setting on the Mach E (whisper).

I haven’t driven a Macan EV, but based on the descriptions I hear, I would bet the Mach E is a lot like a cheaper version of it.

It doesn’t really drive like an SUV. It’s more like a tall station wagon with a very low center of gravity.

For sure the Ford dealer experience is going to vary place by place. On the Mach E forums the service goes from excellent to terrible.

My local Ford dealer was awesome. For any warranty work they would come drop off a loaner and pick my car up. Not many do that though.

My neighbor has a Cayenne hybrid and while he gets a loaner, there is no drop off/pick up service.

Ford Corporate also gave me a free extended warranty when I took the car in for the Battery recall. I don't think Porsche does anything like that.

I’m upgrading from a 21 Mach E premium AWD extended battery so the performance is much better on the 2024 taycan 4s. It’s not here yet but I test drove one locally. 4.8s 0-60 felt incredible on the Mach E and 3.8s is even better! Definitely wish I had the facelift with active ride for the entrance lift because getting in and out is a very different experience though I’m still in my early 30s and healthy so it’s still cooler than it is annoying. Interior is great on the Mach E but I only drove shit boxes before that, and the Taycan feels much nicer. Seat heats on the Mach E are pretty warm so I’m concerned that the Taycan didn’t get very warm on my test drive. I’m also at 50k miles on my first set of tires so I’m not looking forward to replacing every 20k. Only spent $500 on the car to replace wipers and air filter, rotate tires, and re-align the blue cruise sensors after 3 years. I imagine service and maintenance will be more expensive on the Taycan based on what I’m seeing online.

My wife is taking the Mach E so I’m happy it’ll still be available because I do still love it.

I had a ‘21 MachE premium for 3.5 yrs before getting a J1.2 Taycan in Sept 2024.
I loved the looks of the MachE, but the skinny tires looked silly. If I had kept the car I would have put wider tires on.
The forums for MachE are superior because there are more owners out there and some Ford employees hanging around on the forums. Great technical knowledge shared by those folks.
I do miss the Blue Cruise for longer trips. When they finally got that tech dialed in, it worked really well for me.
Overall really happy with the decision to upgrade to Taycan.

Oh yeah, Bluecruise. I rarely drove on the highway so kinda forgot about that. But completely hands free driving is definitely another plus.

Also figured out today the Porsche doesn’t have walk away auto-locking. Gotta get used to manually locking the car again.

I had 255 pilot sport 4S tired on the Mach E so that helped. But the staggered 21 265 and 305 tires look sooo much better.

Another nitpick- the car defaulting to normal drive mode every key cycle. The Mach E would store whatever mode you prefer and tie it to your “my key” or your memory seat number setting. I think that’s because efficiency was identical in all drive modes.

I had a premium awd extended battery Mach-e x 2 yrs and changed to a RWD 1.1, now on my second Taycan, a RWD 1.2

I did change the tires on my mach e to wider ones

The drive on the Taycan is superior not for speed but for stability. Mach e looks great but the taycan looks are way better

Very happy with the switch although the mache e overall was excellent

Regards

John

The GT has 255s on it. The premium and select models have 225s(!!) I think that was a decision to eke out the best range numbers possible.

Also, the Keypad on the door pillar. Didn’t use it that often, but if you lose a key or phone, you could drive the car with door code + password on center console.

lol it’s only been a day and I’m already forgetting features. Yeah the keypad on the pillar was great if I didn’t have my phone or keys with me. Just a 3rd convenient way to get into the car.

Speaking of phones- PAAK (phone as a key) was also nice.

The GT came with 245 width tires stock, I upsized to 255 when I changed tires out. Even the 245s looked too skinny for the vehicle. 225 is just silly.
