My Son's first wash

So my Son is 15 and is buying (at a huge discount) my 2018 Tesla Model 3 (the reason I got a Taycan). The Model 3 was babied by me, always garaged and washed regularly. Since getting the Taycan 3 months the Tesla was kicked to the curb and occasionally parked under a tree. Pollen is pretty bad around here right now and the car was filthy so I told him yesterday that I was going to teach him to wash it today. He was having a friend over so he convinced him to do it together.

We did a full foam bath, wheels, foam bath, contact wash, rinse and dry. They are SOOOOOOO bad at everything. Won't scoot down to get different angles with the power washer, don't see all the missed dirt that I have to then point out, etc. I guess I'm picky but I wanted to teach them the right way from the beginning.

Hopefully I can instill that same sense of pride in a clean car over time. We'll try again in a few weeks.

I did that w my son a few years ago. Last weekend, he had his first track day and got within four seconds of my time at the Streets of Willow. I’m a former instructor at Road Atlanta, been teaching him since he was 15 (now 17). I suspect he will close the gap to less than 2 seconds next track day and be close to parity soon after. It’s kind of like bending down to hit the dirty spots. Gotta hit those braking points and smoothly transfer that load, my son…

Looking forward to hearing the next installment describing the interior cleaning . None of the 4 girls we raised ever learned to make the interior of their cars look like anything other than a place they had lived in for a year
