Denza Z9GT coming to Europe in April with 1,500kW charging
The premium performance wing of BYD, Denza plans to launch three models in Europe and the UK this year as well as pioneering the group’s ultra-rapid DC charging.

The Z9GT is its first offering – a high-performance shooting brake with European-influenced design – and is expected to compete with the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and upcoming Mercedes-AMG 4-Door.

It is due to launch in the coming weeks and will be available in rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive guises. Denza says the rear-wheel-drive model will return up to 497 miles of range from its 122kW battery. Meanwhile the all-wheel-drive model will use a tri-motor setup to deliver more than 947bhp and a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds.

Central to the Denza’s launch is the simultaneous arrival of BYD’s Flash charging service. The group already has thousands of its devices installed across its native China and plans for a major European roll-out this year, including 300 units in the UK.

I wonder if they will ship it with the Chinese plug, to be compatible with the 1500 kW chargers, and give an adaptor for ccs2 - or if they go the double port route, accepting 2 ccs2 connections at the same time.

Mercedes invested quite heavily into Denza, and based on reviews it has a more “premium” ride than your basic BYD.

I think this starts at just under 60k, so definitely a competitive price.

I wonder what changed for them to move the release 6 months earlier. Try to corner some of the market before other competitors enter the European market in Q3/Q4?

Would be non-sense to to anything but keep the car you bought less than 1 year ago.

Cars like these will make owners of j1.1 like me, especially 2020-2022 years, ponder if they should stick with the porsche badge or get better quality.

It’s not like porsche is giving any incentives or confidence to early adopters to stick with their cars. No fixing hardware issues with the HV batteries, refusing to update software, bad customer service, build quality issues that remain unfixed, and more.

How big and heavy is that charging cable?

Looks like normal thickness, maybe a bit thicker. Remains to be seen how it manages multiple charging sessions one after another, the cooling of the cable seems less robust than the megawatt equivalent for trucks in europe (also liquid cooled, at least what i've seen in CH) - would imagine performance might go down on the 2nd or 3rd charging session in a row.

CCS2 cables are AIR cooler, while they are using liquid cooling in china for the cables and connectors. So in theory, better... but remains to be seen in real world testing.

They do seem to want to roll it out at scale in China, and 1000 units for EU+UK, all by end of year.

I'm surprised. The Tesla superchargers are liquid cooled and their cables are pretty thick and heavy.

Tesla’s superchargers are held back by the battery storage/chargers, not by the cables. True.

and at least in Europe, they are limited by ccs2 as well

Nobody has even mentioned how ugly it is? And how it will not handle like a Taycan… still 60k overpriced…

If you increase voltage, you decrease the current and so can use lighter cables. The older Tesla chargers (and most (all?) their cars) run at 400v. Electrify America and the Taycan run at 800v, hence their better charging rate than Teslas. I'm guessing BYD is moving to 1000v or 1200v, to push that much power.

I hope so.
Test drove four cars back to back with my mother recently:
BYD Seal, Ioniq 5 N-Line, Kia EV6, VW ID7.

Out of these cars the BYD Seal was by far the weakest car. The least comfortable seating, the worst calibrated ADAS, the worst ride quality/fidgety suspension, the slowest fast charging.

Third place was Kia EV6, purely due to the uncomfortable seats. Both our backs hurt, even though it was the higher tier trim.

Second place was the ID.7 - super comfortable, extremely well calibrated and refined suspension, very well calibrated ADAS. The downside was that it was by far the noisiest of all due to the lack of acoustic glass, and the charging performance is below the Korean cars.

First place was the Ioniq 5, and the one I ended up buying for her. Very comfortable seating, clear winner in the looks department, and the 260 kW fast charging is also very welcome. By far her favorite car.
Downside for the Korean cars are the ICCU issues, but that's what the warranty is for.

I dove a bit into all the technical info, pricing, specs and pictures around the Denza.
We will see, what emerges from it.
I don't like the overall design at all, as it's leaning towards a shooting-brake but lacking ANY of the elegance a Taycan has.
Just straight panels, hood an a bulky appearance.
The only standalone element could be the roof.
The lights are even more ugly as BMW Neue Klasse.
Until proven otherwise, I doubt the "ride" will get close to a Taycan, but that's speculation.
Also quite curious, how the support will be and how insurance will treat this new entry.
Definitely no Denza for me and yes: I am happily willing to pay a premium for heritage, design and market integration.
