I bought an extended warranty for my 2020 4S in 2024 before the original warranty expired. I'm covered until 2030 or 75K miles. It cost $4K from my dealer. Late last year I had to have the rear motor replaced. The bill was $24K. I just paid a $250 deductible. The warranty extracts a healthy discount from the dealer for parts and labor. You are married to the dealer for most repairs involving the car's systems. Batteries are not covered ( HV & 12 volt ).

I too have a '22 Taycan GTS. Warranty expires today. I have 36K on my car. I ended up buying the 7 year, 85K mile extended warranty for a little over $5,000. My local dealerships quoted me 2K more on all levels of extended warranties. If anyone wants to get and EW you have to call Kelli Parker at San Antonio Porsche. She was awesome to work with. She works on volume so she gives the best pricing. There is major markup on these extended warranties so most finance guys/girls really try to screw every customer they can. Kelli just gives it to you straight. Like I said, $2,000 cheaper than everyone else I called. For $5,000 it felt like a no brainer because literally if one thing breaks over the next 3 years it will pay for itself and thensome.

I have to wonder what galaxy you are inhabiting. An HV heater replacement alone is more than the warranty cost,,,
I think that’s what he’s saying, that at first he’s like “nah don’t buy it” but then 1 single repair cost is more than the warranty cost which means go buy it. That’s how I interpreted it.

You are correct 👍🏾

the fact that people ask whether they should buy warranty for Taycan or not is ridiculous. There is only one answer!

There is 5 years of data and they update the data (internally at the warranty companies) constantly and adjust prices as necessary.

But even if they’re wrong and dumb and slow to react, the normal formula is 8 to 1 in their favor. They have tons of room to be wrong and still it won’t have the math in our favor.

It’s not a math based decision, it’s a fear or “sleep better at night” decision.

But the fact that the Taycan extended warranty is significantly more than my last EV tells you they’ve already done “the math.”

There are two answers, but each person can make their own decision.

Most of the time (88%) you don’t get your moneys worth.

But for those rare people who have a major repair….. it’s significant.

I said it before, if you can afford the major repair bill in the unlikely event it happens out of warranty, you’re better off never buying them.

Not sure where you get the idea that the Taycan math is somehow unique.

It’s always a guess and constantly moving number for any new car. But these companies make money year after year on this product.

Any new model year for any car is a crapshoot. The Taycan in year 6 of production actually will be much easier to do the math on than any “new for 2026” model out there.

Is it possible they got the math wrong back in 2020? Sure. But by 2026? The algorithm should be pretty predictable. Porsche tax for sure fits into things as well. For $1400 (like my last car) I would do it. But at the current prices I’ll take my chances.

I might look at it differently if I bought the car new for $150k. But since I bought a used 24 for half that price it just doesn’t feel as worth it.
