Ive spread a few pics of my new car around some other sections but this will be my first official thread here at TF.
This is my 10th Porsche and 2nd EV (Plaid) all prior P cars were iterations of the 911 (Turbo S, Turbo, GT3, GTS, C4S).
Some quick thoughts of this car vs a long winded resume of my love for cars:
10 Porsches
16 BMW M's
13 MBZ AMGS
6 Audi R8's/RS7's/RS6
2 Corvette C8 Z06's
2 Ferraris
1 Lambo
1 Bentley GT3R
Blah blah blah, the list goes on with Jag, NSX, Tesla Plaid, Supra Turbos, GTR, etc
Im a regular at BMW aka Bimmerpost so I posted this there as Ive around for 17 years (pardon the redundancy):
Got bored- got an EV again (had a Plaid). Some thoughts:
But this one is different and actually gives me good driver “feels”
. It’s a Gen 2 J1.2 Taycan Turbo GT with the semi useless Weissach pack (small tongue in cheek comment here).
The Great:
Power!! --- just about 1100 on tap during LC and then it dips to around 1019hp or so after the 2 second launch (don’t ask me)- quarter mile is probably mid 9’s but some people are in the low 9’s with traps over 150 or close. Normal cruising hp is 777 or close and a 160 hp boost for 10 seconds with a pull of paddle. I can look up the exact shit but nah its just fast and I like it.
Braking --- damn good due to 10 pot front calipers. It really brings the almost 5k lb fatty to stop really quite fast.
Steering --- Ive read about the car and watched a ton of reviews. And the feel is amazing along with the point and shoot characteristics. Is it 992 like? No but its really really good. The car is very very easy to drive and negotiate in sharp turns. The feel is typical Porshe EPS and great proper resistance. Not too light and not too heavy.
Chassis --- Amazing!! The Porsche Active Ride aka PAR is brilliant. Ive never had a car that did this with the heft it carries. Its unbelievable how the car just soaks up the most damaged roads and has no lean at all. Where a normal car leans outward on sharp turns; this one does not; it leans in. Porsche isn’t trying to hide the weight but it has a done an amazing job of diffusing it. Im utterly impressed with the PAR and of course the rear axle steering too. This is possibly the best part of the car for me. Even moreso than the speed.
Interior --- Its ok to good but not superb- great 18 way seats but missing some creature comforts which Ill note below. Decent stereo with 2 rear deck speakers removed. For me its fine with RaceTex all over (Porsche’s alcantara) and a pretty decent infotainment setup.
Looks --- I like it- widebody with the gold wheels and the obnoxious wing. Its noticeable and performs like it looks; mean and bold and fast.
The Stupid (but one needs to understand why) via Weissach. Stupid for most but not an issue for me- probably why I got such a great deal on it.
5k lb car with no rear seats
No blind spot detection
No front camera
No soft close doors
No power trunks
Minor Mods:
Ceramic Coating
35% Ceramic Tint
H&R 15mm spacers squared
A few other things missing to basically net out 200lbs or so vs the normal Turbo GT. It’s a novelty car for sure and definitely not for most out there but boy it’s a fun one to rip around and crush souls. Is it faster than my Plaid- close in a straight line but no chance will the Plaid out handle it or or out brake it. The car has some cool characteristics that give it a more normal non EV feel. It has a 2 speed rear axle setup so there is actually a shift and you can really tell its there. The throttle is not “slap you in the face” like the Plaid but more linear/progressive. And of course the build quality murders the Plaid. Is it a 911 EV? No- but its something quite different and fun. The ability to confidently go boldly at speeds where Ive personally not gone before on canyon roads is rewarding. No wonder this car hit the Ring in 7:07.

And a Short on the PAR:
