If floored you feel it. Normal driving you would never know it has a transmission.
In Normal it’s all second gear unless you floor it. In Sport, the clunk thump is there especially when tge downshift takes place when coming to a stop.

Anyone here ever liked a Star Wars movie? Watching Twilight Zone TV shows? Going to a fiction-romance movie, and/or choosing to see AI generated videos and read AI stories even though we all knew going in they were fake???

So much ranting here that since E-Shift is fake it is a travesty. Porsche never claimed nor has any poster here that E-shift in a Taycan is going to be as good as screaming around in a 911 at full song. It will be very different but that never precluded that both can be differentially fun. Why can E-shfit not be a delightful option for those who chose to spec it and then sporadically turn it on? Or enjoy an occasional ride in a friend’s 2027 Taycan which has it?

I am thinking that six months we will see a fair amount of posts from folks who have posted, that they went for a ride in their friend’s 2027 with E-shift and noted here, “I was surprised that while not for me, I really liked it.“ Guessing a few who post, ”as a result of that ride, I will add E-shift into my 2028 Taycan options list.” From some who bought an 2027 Taycan, “I never liked the 4S’s sound option, tried and abandoned its launch control, yet now repeatedly liking my E-Shift.

Also for sure, we will also see posts from those who got a ride in one with it and said, “one and done.” That will be just fine too.
For sure some will like it and some won’t, that’s why it’s optional and can be turned on and off.

That said, the “fake criticism” will always be there.

There is definitely a distinction between “fake good” and “fake bad.”

Fake good- Alcantara. More durable and easier to maintain and clean than suede.

Fake bad- imitation leather. Less durable, less breathable. Only advantage is it’s cheaper.

I said it before, this feels too much like a vegan cheeseburger. Why imitate the thing you’re trying to replace and think is “bad?”

Smooth and quiet are some of the benefits of EVs. I see this as a step backwards.

But that’s just for me. If others like it and want it, I think it’s fine it exists. Personally I wouldn’t mind some customizable propulsion sounds you could adjust or turn on and off.

Side note- something silly I downloaded and tried a couple times a few years ago was the XLR8 app. It uses the accelerometer in your phone and can make all kinds of engine shifts and noises for your EV. It’s free. It’s silly and I only used it like 3x and was over it pretty quickly.

how many times per day do you reach the speed limit of the taycan? How many launch controls do you do per day?
The answers to your direct question are zero, and zero. However, I have a modded (tuned) Taycan and I utilize the full power of the motors (slightly beyond launch control power) almost every time I drive. When I press the accelerator, I honestly don't want any cuts in power imitating gear shifts, I already dislike the real gear change on the Taycan. When I want to pass someone doing 45mph in a 55mph zone, but somehow accelerating to 65mph whenever there is an allowable pass zone (typically downhill), I prefer to be doing 120mph+ when passing - this allows me to complete the pass quickly, and the car being passed doesn't even realize it's being passed until I am passing them, so they don't bother to speed up (when I try to pass with just +10mph, the car being passed often accelerates to try to keep me from passing them). The acceleration from 45mph to 120mph need to be as quick as possible, any simulated gear changes would be completely counterproductive.

PS> I learned to use the sport noise feature of the Taycan when passing. It gives some warning to the cars being passed, but with the speed deferential they don't even try to fight it (by speeding up). On a recent road trip I forgot to turn off the sport noise after passing a slow car, and that lead to grabbing attention from a passing police officer. After that I passed the next oblivious driver without sport noise, but then I felt bad about as it completely surprised him, causing him to veer onto the shoulder after I passed him. I returned to using sport noise every time I pass.

So you don't want a manual car. Yet that is what most enthusiasts want.

So we finally figured out who this feature is intending to attract. Good it's just a button.

So my point stands... all of those exagerations about going back to horses galloping are ridiculous, and are just as missplaced as exagerations against manual transmisions. People like more engaging driving, and manuals offer that, and based on comments from anyone that touched this feature, this also offers that.

Most people driving on public roads have never used taycan's full capabilities, never will, and they would never notice if there is a performance impact.
