Out of warranty 4S died today.

4S died today after a 4h road trip with 1h break. We think the HW battery still has warranty but the car is out of warranty.

Dealer is 300 miles away. I’m mentally prepared for a 20-30k costs if it’s not the battery.

It was an adventure to unload it since the 12V also died while on the platform.

I hope it's a battery issue so there is no issue with warranty coverage…hate that you're having the problems.

If it’s the LV battery, an extended warranty doesn’t cover it anyways.

Well, it came out of nowhere, RRoD and the car stopped 20 seconds later and that was that. The 12V died while on the flatbed, maybe 1-1.5H after the car stopped.

12V dying means that one or more of the following needs repair:

1. 12V battery
2. DC-2-DC converter - it is responsible for charging the 12V battery from the HV battery
3. HV battery - it feeds the DC-2-DC converter

Since #3 is covered by warranty, even if both #1 and #2 need replacement, it shouldn't add up to $30k.

Then again, there is also a chance it will just clear itself and only the 12V battery needs a jump charge - it happened to me not long ago with a 2023 TCT. Red electrical error, can't drive the car. I didn't have time to deal with it immediately so left it parked at a shopping mall, then came back couple of hours later with a PIWIS to try to diagnose or collect/tow the car. The car was all happy, showing no errors. Took the car to the dealer next day, they found the (now) inactive errors, buy since they cleared and did not reoccur, Porsche corporate says all is well and to leave it alone.

Thanks for this. The car stayed overnight in my parking, I cannot even start it.

I’will jump start it when they will tow it so I can add it to N but seems unlikely to be just the 12V since it stopped while I was driving.

What makes me think it’s the HW is that the AC stopped blowing cold air and if I remember correctly the AC is also using HW but the fans where working

12V is actually required for almost any function. Bad 12V can cause a huge list of seemingly unrelated errors to pop up. If you have an OBD2 scanner, see what errors you can see (you can use free tools like CarScanner, as long as you get a BT adapter, or use the Tcan Pro from the link below (requires an $8 cable):

12 V dies very quickly as it has little capacity.
Sounds like either the AC-charging module, which will cost between 4-6 K or the HV battery which will cost "nothing".
12V could be reactivated under that circumstance and does not need replacement.

Thanks. As you can see in the image, it also has the turtle icon and I read on another thread that it might be the inverter as everyone who had the red circle and the turtle has that .

it’s a company car so will be paid via the company.
