Hi there, I live in a Las Vegas strip hotel where private charging just isn't possible. Cars are parked underground by valet.

What are your favorite safe public charging stations in Las Vegas? What stations should I avoid? Looking for insider tips that might not be available on the common charging apps.

[Taycan TTS at dealer being prepped. Will pickup in a few days!]

It doesn't answer your question but I'm curious, what led you to live in a Strip hotel? Didn't even realize that was possible!

Charge at the South Premium Outlets in Vegas. I always stay south strip (MGM Platinum member) so it's pretty close to whichever property I'm staying at. (Which these days tends to be Vdara since I'm usually there for a week, and it's good for work). If you are staying at Veer Towers, it'd be a similar thing.

I've also run into other Taycan owners charging there. :)

Same here about charging at the South Premium Outlets. It's the only one I go to in Vegas. Need get on the stick to contact Electrify America to suggest installing some superchargers at the Primm Outlet Stores. I am sure they have been pinged about this type of request before. There is plenty of real estate out there to build it too, and even with a solar panel roof.

Yes, it's possible but not terribly common. I personally live at the MGM Signature. It's a three tower condo complex that's attached to the MGM Grand.

The "condo-hotel" concept was very popular in Las Vegas in 2005-2006, just before the real estate market crashed. The first round of buyers all got washed out. The unit I'm leasing, for example, originally sold for $1.5 million 2006. It dropped to a low of $350k, now probably worth about $450k.

The second generation of buyers scooped up a lot of those units and rent them out to people like me. But since HOA fees are so ridiculously high, it's very hard to make a profit on them. Horrible place to buy but an absolutely wonderful place to rent or lease directly from an owner.

I really love living in a strip hotel. I don't even gamble. I just like the food, the people, the shopping, the whole vibe of the place really. Also, as it turns out, I really don't like to be around children and there are virtually none of them there since so many activities are 21+.

In June of last year, the casinos started enforcing a mask mandate. I bailed and have been spending time in my place in San Diego since then. Told my landlord I'd return and resume leasing when mask mandate was eliminated (or when the casino guards stopped enforcing it). And just today, I got word...no more masks on the strip! So I'll be heading back to Vegas again, but this time in a Taycan. I've really missed it.

I almost bought a unit in the Signature when they were super cheap, I think some of the units were available for even less than what you paid. Because it's a condo-hotel, financing was an issue, and arranging for cash in the short period needed to grab one was beyond what I wanted to do.

Kicked myself 2 years later, because, as you noted, they shot up in value. Then again, so did the stuff I didn't sell to get the cash for it. :p

I considered leasing someplace in Veer Tower for a year, because those got super cheap too. I decided against it just because the maintenance charge was so high that it didn't make sense.

I considered leasing at Veer as well. I spend a fair amount of time at Aria (Javier's restaurant) so being so close would be nice. But in the end, I liked the fact that MGM Signature was fully furnished and that there's a monorail stop at the MGM. People mock that silly monorail but, I've gotta say, at $1/ride to get up and down the strip, it's pretty darned cool!

We just used the South Premium Outlets during a road trip last week to Vegas. Easy access from the strip and only a few miles away. The only downside for us was we stopped in early morning so the shops there were not open and there were no bathrooms easily accessible. Probably not a problem most of the time, but we happened to be there just after breakfast and lots of coffee so we stopped charging as soon as we hit our target level rather than topping up all the way.

Nice! I'll visit that place when/if I take delivery on my TTS. Thanks for reporting.

While you are charging early you can walk across the parking lot to dunkin Donuts for a coffee and rest stop.
