Hi everyone, am wondering if anyone has any advice. This evening I wanted to take on some charge at a BP Pulse station. My previous (and only) Ionity fast charge experience went well, but this not so. First, battery was 27 deg C on arrival with 40% SOC but the 150kw CCS charger was only delivering 58kw. About 10 mins in it started to rise to 71kw before erroring just after I got back in the car. After some faffing about during several restarts it became apparent that every time I got back in the drivers seat the Comfort Access powered up the ignition and the BP Pulse charger then errored. Because I had my daughter with me, the only solution (even with keys left in the car) was for me to sit in the back in order to keep it charging. Has anyone else come across this before? Am
I doing something wrong and can I isolated the auto ‘ignition’ if so? Sorry for dumb question but I don’t recall this problem when I used the Ionity network.

I often charge at Electrify America fast chargers with the Ignition on in order to have heating and radio while waiting in the driver's seat. It still charges normally and the only way it stops is if you try to put the car in D or R. Of course the car will not allow you to drive if the charger is plugged in, but it stops the charging session.

Out of interest, did you power off the car before charging using the off button? If so, did comfort access switch it back on from the "off" state? Just wondering if the transition between on and off states might be "tripping" something in the charge process. Next time try either switching it off or leaving it on - basically the opposite of whatever you did this time.

Hi Bootsie, it’s a good point. I have a feeling that I didn’t turn the power off the first time I tried although locking the car for 5 mins while shopping didn’t resolve either. I’ll try again sometime soon and report back.

I had a similar problem on Saturday except it didn’t happen as soon as I got into the driver’s seat and the power came on.

Used the BP Pulse on the A27. Plugged into the 150kw charger, tapped credit card and it all started ok. It was only charging at a fraction of 150. Battery temp was fine, had it on direct charging.

Had powered off before connecting the cable, sat back in the car and had the radio and AC on. Charging carried on fine for around 10% charge then abruptly stopped. Charging error, confirmed both by car and charge unit. Disconnected and reconnected, tapped card Again, started ok.

Ended up doing this a 3rd time before I got bored and left. I got approx 24Kw in the 45 mins or so I was there. To boot I’ve been charged for those 3 sessions correctly by BP but also a full £30 which is the card preauth limit. I’ve explained to BP it would be impossible for me to use all the kw I was charged for in that session as it represents more kw than the battery holds.

Anyone got any ideas? I’m going to mention to my dealer anyway when it goes back in for another software recall. Strikes me that it could be an error with the car. I seem to remember having this issue in Jan at the same charger but I put it down to user error. Can’t see I was doing anything wrong this time though.

This is the only 150kw charger I’ve tried using so maybe I’ll try another one at some point. No issues with other 50kw public chargers other than not charging at anywhere near the advertised speed.

Direct Charging only relates to Alternating Current (AC) charging where it will override any timer or profile. You do not need to use this setting when using a Direct Current (DC) rapid / ultrafast charger.

Issue sounds like a BP Pulse issue and the communication between the car and charger.

Have you tried other non-BP units?

Do you have the 400v/150Kw charger option? I wonder if these are some of the 400v chargers you talked about @W1NGE?

I do have the option but never yet used it.

There are legacy 150kW 400V DC charger in UK (non-Tesla) and non-legacy non-Tesla. In Rep Ireland they are rolling out new 150kW 400V DC chargers. Porsche have installed 800V (960V rated) 150kW chargers for customer (Taycan Card) users which don't require the 150kW DC 400V booster option (obviously). So there is a mix. For the cost of the option it is a total no brainer to include should there be any doubt.

No not yet, not needed to charge anywhere outside of home since. I’ve contacted BP about the overcharge, thus far been ignored. Might report it as a fraudulent transaction to my card provider and see if that elicits a response
