In big recent recall, was there update for the charger connect that allowed it to display the battery percentage?

No, no instruction was given to enable PLC pairing so please disable that as your PMCC is already WiFi connected.

Login as Customer Service via the web portal.

From the Connections menu select PLC connection to vehicle and activate.

I’ll try logging in as customer service instead and see what happens.

Still does not work for me. Something is failing for some reason.

On PMCC I can choose Network status (the option below PLC on the PMCC menu) and I can see that the PMCC is connected to my wireless connection in the garage bit that PLC is not connected.

When I then activate PLC on the web application (so @W1NGE picture above) I actually see on the PMCC that the connection status changes to “connecting”…. However after a minute or so it fails and nothing connects.

I PIN protected my PMCC as I thought maybe it only works if PIN protected. Now whilst writing this I realized the car was connected to the PMCC during the process. Could that be the mistake?

Your description is exactly what has happened with me. I PIN protected mine too thinking same. My car was also plugged in.

here’s an image. Looks as though PLC to vehicle already activated. So no clue why SOC not showing up.
I guess next step is to harangue my service rep.

Make sure you have disabled PLC network connection - you do not want this enabled, just WiFi.

Now that you have PLC to vehicle enabled then check the charging section of your PMC e.g. check plug and charge us enabled

The below mentioned PMCC features only work with (as of today):
- Taycan MY21, 11kW / 9.6kW chargers
- PMCC Software Version 2925 or later

The below mentioned PMCC features do NOT work with:
- Taycan MY20
- Taycan MY21, 22 / 19,2kW chargers

Features:
- Plug & Charge incl. registering the car in the PMCC, so no PIN unlock is required to charge if the PMCC is locked
- Display of the SoC in the PMCC display or web interface
- Solar charging (with the Porsche HEMS installed)
- Asymetric 3-phase charging (with the Porsche HEMS installed)

Additional technical requirements needed:
- PLC connection between PMCC and the car is enabled in the PMCC, which is the default
- The car and the EV use the PLC connection and communicate via ISO15118. At least the OBCs in Germany tend to fall back to IEC61851 communication, similar to J-1772 in the US. Both these protocols don‘t support any of the above. The only way to see if this is the case as a user is if the SoC is not displayed where sometimes it shows.

@tuptaycan4S I see in your profile that you have a MJ20. If that is correct, then you car won‘t provide the SoC information to the charger. I also have a MJ20 Taycan 4S.

No, sadly not. For that to work the OBC needs a certificate and software changes, which it does not. The MY21 11/9.6kW OBC has that.

Sadly there is no communication from Porsche about this anywhere. The big update task letter from last March I think even mentioned that the Plug & Charge and SoC feature will work, but they don‘t as the OBC chargers software wasn‘t updated and didn‘t get the required certificate installed.

Do you see the cars VIN in the car registration screen of the PMCC web interface? The charger itself does not report the VIN via EEBUS to a HEMS, even with MY21. The ID is always in the eui48 format.

Thank you all for your input. It’s amazing to me how little literature is available through Porsche. And how little the service reps seem to understand it all.
The update letter I received indeed stated the charger would show SOC and to my recollection did not bother to distinguish between MY’s. (Thanks Porsche).
Having called the service rep, one would have thought he’d be able to point this out immediately.
I have a MY20 so I guess that’s the end of it for now. Perhaps Porsche will provide updates in the future.
As a matter of opinion, if I were designing a charger for an electric car, (and I have no expertise in this field), but IF I were designing one, having the SOC visible on the charger seems like one of the first boxes I would check. It’s ludicrous to me that this is even an issue, and that it isn’t simply one of an array of display options selectable out of the box.
That being said, again, thank you all for your input.
