range mode and tire wear (2025 single motor, small battery, 20" rims) rumor has it

rumor has it that range mode causes more tire wear. Rear wear is like 30k mile life expected- no problem. Front is fast sloppy tire wear. I drive a lot in range mode: any truth to that rumor?

When in range mode, it become essentially FWD vehicle. Like all FWD vehicles, front tires wear faster than rear. Not unique to Taycan, our Rivian also goes into FWD in the conserve mode and has the same result.

My understanding is that the Tyre ware is caused by the increased negative camber in Range and Sport Plus mode from the low ride height. I would suggest you drive in normal mode, it doesn’t impact on range a great deal and the car in far better to drive than in range mode.

When the Rivian’s air suspension lowers, the angle between the suspension’s upper and lower control arms changes, which alters the camber, making the tires now slant slightly inward at the top when viewed head-on. In other words, the R1 can be mildly stanced from the factory with negative camber. This means that in Conserve mode, it’s putting all its weight on one edge of the tires. The inside edges, in fact, which means you can’t readily see the wear. Driving around in Conserve mode the majority (or all) of the time is what wears them out.

When in range mode you can increase the ride height to ‘lower’, after doing this I’ve not experienced the same insane inner wear on my front tyres

Reducing ride height will increase camber, but I do not believe the inner should wear is due to excessive camber:

The inner should wear is more similar to classic toe wear - so it's worth at least getting front toe checked (by a reputable garage that will also measure rear toe to make sure it's aligned). Interesting, driving in range mode actually decreases front toe so can't be the root cause
