If I'm buying from a private seller in the US, could I get them to CPO it or is that prohibitively difficult?

Read in certain threads that people buying from non-OPCs were able to somehow get the vehicle CPO certified from Porsche. Is that a viable way of getting a CPO in the US?

Hi Eric, I’m sure your local Porsche dealer could tell you if you contacted them. They will also do a multi point inspection on the vehicle in advance of your purchase if that’s something you wanna do. Good luck with this!

Even if they agree to do it, compare the cost of making it a CPO against purchasing an extended warranty. Depending on your situation, the additional benefits may not be worth the extra cost.
- Road side assistance you can get from your insurance.
- The unlimited miles might be irrelevant to you if you don't drive it that much.
- The deductible might be offset by the savings in the initial cost of Warranty vs CPO cost.
- Extended Warranty provides Full Protection just like the CPO.
- The Extended Warranty is transferable with the car.

That is possible and I transacted 2 sales to private buyers through my dealership.
There was a fee to me to do so and since the dealer new my cars very well, they were able to CPO for even 3 years payable by the buyer. Also, this resulted in me using the proceeds as a trade-in allowance. This is the only way now I am selling my cars. When I bought mine via a private dealer, I asked them to take it to the Porsche dealer and to 110 point check.

I have never heard of 3years CPO. Are you sure about it? I don’t think that exist from Porsche. Usually is 2years after manufacturing warranty.

2 years is standard, but our 2016 Macan Turbo was known by the dealer and was in such exceptional shape (8 years/80k miles on it) that the dealer CPO'd for 3 years and it was not much more for the buyer to add one more year. The CPO is still good until Oct 2026 and the buyer loves it so much, they keep me posted how much fun they are having now past 110k miles with the car problem free.
