New clarification from Porsche on Long Term Storage - with a bonus

It's fascinating to me that they can't figure out how to fix it (since I first reported it to them in March?) and so they have to note it in user documentation. Porsche: "It's not a bug, it's a feature." Owners: "No, it's still a Bug."

New clarification from Porsche on Long Term Storage - with a bonus

We'll start with the bonus: "11. Avoid repeated or prolonged use of the Porsche Connect smartphone app. Establishing a connection between the app and the vehicle can lead to a discharged 12-volt battery." This is from this document: "Information on parking or storing the Taycan." dated Oct...

    Expected mileage range drop

Wow! Learning new things every day!! (Dangit, too late for me! I didn’t have a home charger until the springtime. Last winter I did all my charging at commercial chargers.)

    Expected mileage range drop

I’m just suggesting how to avoid the App if it isn’t working for you. [edited below upon learning new info! Thx Scandinavian!) If not plugged in, Preconditioning ONLY heats the cabin (and seats and steering wheel) If plugged in, depending on Ambient temperature, it will also pre-heat the...

    Expected mileage range drop

You can set up all the timers from within the car. And once set, as repeating timers with preconditioning, it behaves pretty well. One of the great benefits of an EV is preconditioning. I hope it gets better behaved for you.

    Expected mileage range drop

Keep the car plugged in. Make sure that it will pre-condition the car using “shore power”, not battery power. That helps quite a bit. As an experiment: on a cold night (30°F) unplug. Note the SoC. Then, in the morning after the car is cold-soaked, tell the car to warm itself up to 70°F...

Time to Say Goodbye, and Thanks for all the Electrons.

Small flurries. Not much snow up north. Y’all kept it down in Mass. Low temperatures though, down to 17°F. Daytimes were 25-32°F.

Time to Say Goodbye, and Thanks for all the Electrons.

You have to know about them to go looking. The only signs are at the end of a 3 mile dirt road. And then it’s almost a mile hike. All of “Maine North Woods” is a 3,000,000+ acre, privately-owned tree farm. North Maine Woods

Time to Say Goodbye, and Thanks for all the Electrons.

I took the cat and the RV off-grid for 5 days in the north woods of Maine. Can you imagine? 5 days without cell coverage? It was wonderful. Found abandoned trains. Rivers. Quiet lakes. Icy, Muddy, two-track roads rarely traveled. And I read three books.

Time to Say Goodbye, and Thanks for all the Electrons.

Today is my car’s Cakeday. It rolled out of the factory on October 25, 2019. And tomorrow, at just over 15,000 miles, I will drive it back to the dealership, and trade it for a check. Not as big a “check” as I gave them. But not horrible. Apparently it will go to another dealership who already...

Is taycan good for father-son relationship ?

I took my wife out on Laguna Seca as a passenger once upon a time. (2008 BMW Z4 M Coupe). No barfing because we agreed beforehand: “if you start feeling queasy, tap me on my leg, and we’ll head into the pits.” 4 laps, TAP TAP TAP!!! Her sister only made 3 laps before she tapped out.

    Conditioning the traction battery

It waits until you get close. But if it is a long trip, some natural heating will occur as you drive. probably not helpful in icy conditions, but a sport mode run from 50 mph to triple digits, then hard regen braking can increase your traction battery temp by 2°F for each ”run”. Or so a little...

    Conditioning the traction battery

I struggled with this as I drove across Canada this past February. Ah... memories!!! And “Enhancement Requests” sent to Porsche! So far... no response! (On this issue)
