Octopus energy now supports Porsche for intelligent tariff.

Hi there, The short answer in my experience is you can’t ever really know in advance. You’re not pre-notified of any peak/off-peak periods. In my specific use case, with an Ohme Home Pro EVSE, the app on my phone will send a notification the minute a car is plugged in to the EVSE detailing the...

Charging idiots or charging etiquette - you pick it!

Totally agree. I’m a little over 2 years into my time with this car and people were notably more curious/friendly at the start. Lot more sitting in cars furiously munching a meal deal from the service station nowadays. ?

Charging idiots or charging etiquette - you pick it!

I had a very convivial conversation recently with a gentleman charging his well-loved Nissan Leaf at Ionity, drawing predictably low speeds. When he saw how quickly my car was wolfing down a charge, he asked me how he could get his car to do it. He was genuinely unaware of the limitations of the...

Touché! Yeah, that one might have to go in the utility room…….

I think you’re right, we have the dishwasher and washing machine set to early morning timers and my insomnia usually means I can be relied upon to be awake well before the 0530 low rate for all usage is upon us. You hear a lot of BBC World Service, that time of the morning…. ?

I think we’re just very lucky here. We’ve the Ohme Home Pro on OI and it works wholly as advertised - it thinks both our cars are the Taycan (just to ensure it fills the largest of the two batteries) and when we plug either that or the Fiat in, it just charges when it feels like it and sends a...

    Brake fluid changed or not

Having just had the brake fluid changed as per the request of the PCM service notification the pedal feel is far more direct and positive. Any sponginess is gone and it feels more linear in response. The car is 2 years old and has 36.5k miles on it. Feels markedly better for having had it done.

    Taycan 20,000 miles

May be different schedules across the Atlantic but mine’s just flashed up a service notification for brake fluid replacement at 36k miles and approaching 2 years old (given the due date in the PCM I’m guessing it’s a 2 year thing).

    Odd battery behaviour

I don’t at the mo, I keep thinking about grabbing one. This may well be the motivation I need!

    Odd battery behaviour

Hi there, No, it had home as a destination and so was just at normal operating temperature. Regardless, it arrived with 12% and was 6% after 30 minutes of being parked up. The range might well be partially temperature related, yes, as our Indian summer has just ended! It was really the 6%...

    Odd battery behaviour

Morning all, I wondered if I might ask if anyone’s experienced anything like the following? I came back from London the other afternoon and arrived home with 12% SOC having left work with 75% or thereabouts. I came into the house for 30 minutes and went back to the vehicle to make a quick...

    Charging to 80% or 100%

I think I read somewhere a rather nice analogy that filling the battery is a little like trying to fill a sports stadium to full without allocated seating. The first 80% get seated pretty easily but the last 20% are sort of climbing over one another to get to the remaining seats. I’ve no idea if...

    Charging to 80% or 100%

Ha, don’t know! I’ve noticed that the charging curve drops away dramatically towards the 100% on HPDC and had always assumed this was partially BMS protecting the system integrity and the battery. It tends to run 250kw to around 50% (often then the temperature of the battery approaches 50c and...

    Charging to 80% or 100%

I’m at 36,000 miles in a smidgeon under 2 years and my usage profile has me charging to 99/100% a lot as this works best for my current needs. Occasionally due to Octopus Intelligent/cancelled work this has left the car in 100% charge state for a reasonable period of time. I’ve not got an ODB...

The 6 IONITY chargers at the Holiday Inn at Coquelles are very handy in this instance and I’ve never seen them busy.

    Rocketing Insurance for Electric Cars

That they have! Unfortunately for us, as with some companies with electric vehicles, a lot of insurers just won’t quote for our property. Our broker is, mercifully, an excellent practitioner so keeps us on about the right side of crazy each year.

    Rocketing Insurance for Electric Cars

It does seem as though insurance is just more expensive across the board. We’ve just re-insured my wife’s Fiat and her insurance has gone up from £250 to just under £400. Lord help us when Hiscox come knocking again in April for the house insurance (listed building, flood zone…….aargh!)

Charging etiquette. Would you do the same?

Totally understand - apologies if my thread came across as criticising you, wasn’t my intention, merely stating how I wouldn’t feel able to do it. No judgement on my part here!
