I'm curious if anyone who has the 14-50 plug, 50 Amp breaker and 6 gauge wire to the wall receptacle, can please check to see how hot your plug and its wire connected at top of charger gets after about 90 minutes of charging? Warm, hot to the squeeze, etc? Other wires are warm, as expected...
Unfortunately, brand new model releases, especially EV’s, come with growing pains and large learning curves first year - including the manufacturers and/or their reps up and down the food chain. Pandemics aren’t helpful either.
Notwithstanding the above, the car is spectacular to drive!
Thank you for your response, Peter. The first 2 sentences of my post say "the plug's cable". The cable you see in the photo that's part of/connected to the plug, going around on top - into the charger - that's the cable that gets extremely hot. Not the wall outlet wire. The plug itself does get...
I’m just wondering why, after getting the right 14-50 NEMA plug and installing a 6 gauge wire with a 50 amp breaker, is the plugs’s cable so damn hot after even 45 minutes or so? I know the cable to the car gets warm but the 14-50 plug’s cable gets really hot, to the point where if I squeeze it...
Yes, I do have the manual but consider this forum more easily accessible and getting explanations in more detail by people such as yourself which I find very informative and personal coming from people much smarter than me, rather than reading pages in a manual. This all began with reading in...
Good to hear. Finally got the 14-50 plug installed today, including the 50amp breaker, pushing 40A, charging now. After about an hour now what’s interesting is the plug itself is not as hot to the touch as was the 14-30 plug but the 14-50 plug’s cable is very warm bordering hot, whereas the...
So are you saying the 40 amp breaker is too much (hot) for the receptacle that the 14-30 is plugged into? should be a 30 amp breaker instead?
Is there an electrician “in the house”?
Ok, so now I'm confused. I currently have a 40 amp breaker and a 14-30 plug. The Porsche charger display says "24 A". As soon as I receive the ordered 14-50 plug/cable the electrician will be replace the 40 amp breaker with a 50 amp breaker. The wire is the right gauge because I thought the car...
One other thing I forgot to mention: make sure the cable is completely unwound from the charging unit, no cable should be wrapped around the charging unit, meaning that if your car is 10 feet from the charging unit let the entire 25 ft cable rest on the ground. My personal hang-up is not that...
I currently have the 14-30 plug/cable (have 14-50 on order) 40A breaker and yes, the cable wire from the charger to the car is warm to the touch and after 4 hours of charging the 14-30 plug is definitely hot to the touch, its cable warm/hot. Whether this is normal or not it gives me enough...
Yeah, I don't think many dealers are up to snuff on these cars just yet most likely due to the shutdown and either forgetting their prior training or not having enough time to bone up again as Taycans were arriving. I know my dealer got crushed when they reopened with deliveries on pre Covid P...
