I've seen some questions and debate about how well the map on TYD tracks actual location. The answer is, for me, very accurately. That crazy little navigation path trailing the ship icon matches what I am currently seeing on marinetraffic.com for Green Ridge. It was a little lagged from when...
Turns out, the ship my car is on was involved in an international incident a few years back with some of Putin's boys:

Now that it's in the English Channel, probably safe from mischief.
So much drama...
For me, TYD has been hit or miss. Capturing events that have actually occurred has been very timely - when my car got on its ship, TYD was updated within an hour. A fact I could verify from observing the ship departing Emden on VesselFinder. However, as an expectation setting tool it's been...
FWIW: generally I've found TYD to be low on utility, but still better than not having it. Today, however, I was super impressed with the timeliness of update. I'm one of those guys stalking vesselfinder and marinetraffic obsessively. Today I noticed roro Green Ridge depart Emden and was...
no way to know for sure, but the next one scheduled to head your way (assuming Benicia is your port of entry) is Glovis Sigma. It’s currently in Antwerp and should be heading for Emden later this week.
Green Ridge, after diverting to Bremerhaven for a couple days, has now set sail for Emden. Glovis Sigma is also scheduled to be in Emden within a week. If my ride doesn’t make it on one of those two…it’s gonna be awhile. Fingers crossed.
They are racked and stacked in Bremerhaven, including the Green Ridge which was supposed to be in Emden, right now. Winds in the North Sea around 56 knots. At this point I have no expectation for delivery in March...hoping for April.
The ship Green Ridge, which is supposed to be docking at Emden like today and bringing a load to San Diego (with my car, I believe) has been jogging in the North Sea for hours. I wonder if Emden is shut down while they investigate?
I'd assume they don't give a crap about the cars and that the priorities are:
1) get the crew off safely
2) keep themselves and their ships safe
3) secure the vessel so it, at least, remains seaworthy
4) safely get the vessel to a dock
5) play a game of monopoly
6) have lunch
7) take a nap
8)...
I'm thinking my car is going to be on the Green Ridge. My SA (and TYD) are saying 2/18 load date and Green Ridge is motoring in to port right now. The next ship coming to San Diego (my arrival port) is Glovis Sigma, but that's not scheduled to get to Emden until 2/23. Fingers crossed.
I think it's clear at this point that TYD is worthless as an expectation setting tool.
Guess I'm just going to Rip Van Winkle it and wait for someone to wake me when my car finally gets here.
