Thank you for this. I've tested my system at 40 amp. and it's not overheating. I reported this and the controversy to my installer and here was his reply:
"Thank you so much for sharing! We really try to use the proper material. We stay away from aluminum and use the same wire we have been...
Yes, the hidden cord is definitely an improvement. Great suggestions!! I'll look forward to seeing the translucent version ... I might well order a replacement at that time. Thanks.
Yes, that would work too ... you can actually buy inserts for cup holders which stick up above the cupholder rim quite a bit. I like what you found better because it's not very high. I'm pretty sure that 3dcreations would help you bring your design to fruition. He's easy to work with. Hope you...
Your comments are spot on.
I couldn't figure out a way to hide the cord w/out drilling into the cup holder (and possibly further challenges after that). I asked the fabricator about transparency re: the cupholder light. He didn't think that would look as good but you can contact him and ask...
I don't have the file ... in a related post I provided info. on the fabricator. Here's his contact info. and a bit more of my original description of the installation process:

As I recall someone was contacted by a rep. of the Porsche NA president who said he'd investigate and get back w/in a week (or so?). Hasn't it been more than a week?

I couldn't figure out how to open the key and watched several videos. Someone used a small screwdriver, someone else used an even smaller screw driver. I couldn't figure out the tabs idea, either. What did work for me, and very well, was simply pulling the side flaps off -- away from the keyfob...
Another option in the U.S. is to file a complain with the national auto safety board which collects info. on vehicle safety issues reported by consumers (https://www.nhtsa.gov/). Anyone having experienced overheating, melting of plugs, smoke, fire, excessive heat in association with operating...
The more I think about this the less likely it seems that Porsche engineering and quality control could put something out that did this under normal conditions here or in Europe. There are multiple factors at play including temperature, plug, panel, wiring and distance from the panel to...
Actually it did come with the "dock" and "Mobile Charger Connect" but not the "Mobile Charger Plus." I bought an aftermarket mobile charger so as to not have to plug/unplug the MCC for trips. Thanks for clarifying this … I'd been wondering how common it was to get the dock and larger charger.
