Is a Taycan GT / GT3 / GT4 model on the way?! This spied prototype may just be it!

This Taycan test vehicle with performance aero parts was just spotted at the Nürburgring - outside the Porsche test facility.

That's a Taycan Turbo S with bits stuck on, and a roll cage fitted. For example the wing is just stuck on the top of the existing spoiler. It has none of the sophistication of the GT3's wing which is adjustable and has DRS. Also it has none of the GT3's front aero or diffuser. I think someone just thought it looked cool. Unless they can shave a ton off the weight, its never going to be a GT3.

Love the Duct tape option. I wish I had specced "Cover the front panel randomly with black duct tape". That car is a mess.
Obviously those types of things on pilot vehicles for testing.

It’s not the existing spoiler, if you note the small ducktail. And nobody said it was a GT3 spoiler. It looks similar to the spoiler from a GT4.

And the GT3 spoiler does not have DRS. Only the new RS has that.

You think someone just designed and manufactured a bespoke front fascia, rear deck lid, rear wing and wing mounts, and a custom full roll cage? And then threw in Recaro full race seats and some Taycan CT wheels? Because it looked cool?

This is an official Porsche test vehicle. So the “someone” are Porsche engineers. ?

hmmm range impact - having just finished a road trip where I struggled to get 2.6-2.8 miles/kWh - (making me super jealous of Lucid Air's 4 miles/kWh but not it looks) all those aero bits aren't going to improve the range…

we'll have to see - I'm wondering if they are "testing things" in general - or Testing a specific variation of a Taycan…

all the covered up aero bits on the front look like some pretty agressive aero bits on the front for greater front grip…and the rear spoiler is no secret on that vehicle.

will be interesting to see

My i4 M50 has been getting 3.3+ on road trips consistently. I'm getting more range from it w it's smaller battery & additional weight than I did with my Taycan, and it's just as fast. Porsche is falling behind.

Anyway, that wing looks super out of place on the Taycan.

Fortunately, not in the handling or looks department, where Porsche continues to trounce BMW. Loved the powertrain of my F90 M5, but the steering was awful, as were the ergos. As much as I loved that motor, I couldn’t wait to see that car gone.

Something like this would only make sense for a track, and mass produced EVs would only make sense for the track if they introduced swappable batteries that could be changed as quickly as a tire. Imagine then you could show up with several sets of batteries that are already charged, drive for approx 45 min (to get you through sprint race) and then swap out batteries.

with the type of batteries we currently have, even with fast charging, track visits would be a bummer compared to ICE cars.

fast charging in 30 min or less is suitable for track days…

but the bigger issue is battery thermals - I can only run 1/2 sessions in my Taycan before the battery gives up due to thermal loads…

several local tracks are getting or already have EV fast chargers - and swapping 1,500 lbs batteries track side isn't likely to be practical anytime soon.

fast charging no big deal

again stamina is a bigger issue for tracking my opinion.

It may be no big deal when there are only a few, but I can’t imagine having enough chargers to support 40 EVs on track for a race, or even 20. Yes, batteries need to be improved, but I just don’t think EV racing/tracking will become mainstream until the batteries can be swapped quickly
