Is there a major difference between a 2020 Taycan vs newer models like a 21/22? I heard of plug and charge. Coming from a tesla, this was standard so not sure how you charge without that option on a taycan. Anything else noticeable. Theres a pretty decent price discrepancy from a 2020 to a 21 even.

Some things to consider about the MY 2020 Taycan--
  • Doesn't seem to support OTA updates (someone please correct me if wrong).
  • Will by definition have a HV battery that has typically been used more, shortening the life somewhat (although warranty is still 8 years or 100,000 miles)
  • The car itself will only have 1 year left on the New Car warranty (see this webpage for warranty documents by model and by year)
This doesn't mean a 2020 is not a good buy at the right price, and depending on its overall condition (including never having been in an accident). You could get a good deal here.

I’m looking at CPO so that gives an additional 2 years which is more than enough

can someone confirm the OTA? Would be a pain to have to go to service every time for an update

Here is an official Porsche PR piece about the "uPdate" that specifically mentions OTA capability. If that update has been applied, I would expect OTA update to be possible in general.

I cannot think of any reason that the software that manages authentication for OTA would be model-year specific.

I had a 2020 and am looking at getting a 2021 or newer because I want the plug-and-charge. I ran into issues at Electrify America stations where cell service was super spotty, thereby causing the app to not reliably work which in turn prevented me from charging.

I recently had a road trip where the MyPorsche app gave indications of no or weak connection at a couple of EA sites. I was eventually able to initiate charging.

I had to use the app to charge because my 2022 has lost the PCM option to enable Plug & Charge. Car is going to dealer for a fix.

If you have 30 minutes "free" EA charging and cannot connect with MyPorsche app, will calling EA support result in you getting a charge, or is paying by credit card - if that works - the only option?

I have a 2020, I get updates for things all the time mostly maps. Charging has been very easy with the app and in a rare chance there is an issue (once) I paid like $4 for the charge using my cc.

to charge with EA you pull up the phone app, go to map, click on the charge icon and click on the charger select the stall you are at. Takes less than a minute or roughly the same time it takes to tell a gas pump no I don’t have or want rewards, no I don’t want a car wash, and enter your zip and answer about receipt.

i have never had plug and charge so am not sure how much easier it is. The more common problem I have is a stall that doesn’t sync correctly .or is charging slow which takes more time to move stalls.

I bought cpo and to be fair usually charge at home. Love the car.

Excellent question! I’m in the same boat and was wondering about the same thing.

Having done the research myself before we bought a CPO'd '20. The other difference specific to that year, they changed the PSCB front brakes for 2021 onwards. The 2020's have a unique larger disc and 10 piston caliper on the front. You might care if you keep the car a long time and it needs brakes, with how little it uses them, you might not... :)

Stolen from multiple sources on the web, I clipped the following text:

"Porsche has made changes to the optional Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) for 2021. The discs themselves are 0.2 inches smaller, yet still enormous at 16.1 inches across. The front calipers are now six-piston affairs, down from 10. Porsche promises braking distance and feel are unaffected, however."

Our year of free charging just ran out, and we're now paying for DC Fast charging. I think we fast charged on maybe 3 trips in the last year, so the lack of plug and charge didn't bother us at all.
