Hi All!

I am in the market for a CPO Taycan 4s and looked through some choices at my dealership.

Now a question I have is, are there any big differences to the 2020 gs 2021 since the PCM update came out? Not sure if there were any issues from 2020 model years that were not resolved.

Choosing now between a 2020 4s in Carmine Red with more options checked ($148K MSRP) vs a 2021 Taycan 4s in Neptune Blue with less options checked ($137K MsRP). I love the options set on the 2020 but I really love the Neptune Blue coloron the 2021.

I think Plug and Charge and the HUD availability are the only two potential differences between the years. If neither of those matter to you (or the '21 doesn't have the HUD), can probably just pick whichever you like better without weighing the year.

Sorry, realizing my post may not have been very easy to grok if you're newer to this space.

The '21 models should all support Plug and Charge as standard. No '20 models will support this. A retrofit recently became available, but some forum folks got estimates in the $5k range.

The HUD was an option in '21 and was not an option in '20.

Thanks! Great information. Is the Plug and Charge a game changer or only if you use public chargers often?

Plug and Charge is definitely not a game changer - a convenience only and one I've never knowingly used. For public charging (including Porsche & Ionity (EA)) in UK you have to use the Porsche Taycan Charging Card (RFID) to initiate a charge at an affiliated provider or pay by another means. Appreciate US doesn't have the card and so the convenience feature may factor more at EA / Porsche stations.

The most recent major software upgrades for all Model Years (MY) effectively bring MY20 cars up to MY23 spec (note there are some limitations but useful to bear in mind as a general guide).

Physically and interior-wise nothing has changed so no need to worry about that.

If there's a choice I'd skip MY20 and settle for MY21 onwards.

We just bought a 2020 CPO, so this was one of our exact considerations.

1. No plug and charge. This matters more in the US for the slight inconvenience that only the primary my Porsche account can initiate free charging, so my wife has to log into my account to kick it off at an EA station. Password sharing in LastPass makes this easy.

2. We weren’t looking for HUD

3. Ours has PSCB, and the 2020 has larger 10 piston front caliper, versus 6 piston 2021 onwards. I’m not that worried about brake wear, but those may be a different price point for parts years from now.

We had the PCM update done before taking delivery and it seems identical to ‘22’s we’d driven.
