Hi guys.

I’m about to blaspheme - so wait for it ?

Have any of you very very minimally specced A taycan and either regretted it - or felt happy regardless
does any one think I’ll be utterly bummed out if I order a very minimally speckled car? Or do you think Porsche will simply predict awful GFV .. any wisdom or general thoughts much appreciated from you well versed at all this!

thanks so much !

You will not be happy. General rule for Porsche ordering: average of 20% over base MSRP for equipment/spec.

I think you can still get a nice car at 10-15% over, depending what you want. Maybe less than this with a model higher up the range - you probably don’t need to add anything much to a Turbo S to have a great car

It also depends how you finance it.

A nicely specced car will hold it's value better than something that's practically the base model.

Your costs then aren't the price of base + options, it's the difference between your purchase and sale price. It won't make much difference to the monthly on a PCP.

Where the latter will be better speccing what the typical Taycan buyer is looking for, it's a complete false economy going light spec as your deprecation will be horrible.

Alternatively, find something cheaper and spec it high.

The BMW I4 M Sport with the pro pack basically drives like a Taycan, and it's £25k cheaper than an RWD base.

Your going to get a lot of contrasting opinions ranging from those who state you need a ton of options added for it to be tolerable to those who state minimal is fine.

At the end of the day the base car with no options is still an awesome car! Everything else is icing on the cake. As a side note my build came in at just less than 6% of the base price in options added. I’ll let you know in a month or so when it arrives if I feel it needed anything else…but as it stands I’m more than satisfied with my choices.

I spec’d about 7% of MSRP worth of options. But I went with a GTS which came with a whole bunch of stuffs as standard.

If I am ordering a 4S, easily reaching the 20% mark…

There's someone on here who ordered a no option RWD car. Weirdly I think if you're gonna do miniminal options, it might be worth doing a no option car (at least for US, some of the UK option omissions too hard to stomach). At the end of the day, everything added is a nice to have - some very nice, but a base car is going to be a great car. This is from someone who added $30k in options to a RWD

Hi,

We had a budget at keeping our purchase at or under $100,000 US, so we had to cut corners, but we love our car. Since we upgraded the rims and tires, we allocated funds for the Tire and Rim Protection Plan, plus we prepaid the first maintenance slated for two years after delivery. We drive very little and the roads here are pretty docile….we really have enjoyed our car. The Premium Package and the tires and rims were the costliest add ons. Good luck!

Here were our options on our 2022 RWD Cherry Metallic Taycan we took delivery of in April-

I have a relatively low amount of options and I am very happy with it.
I have:
-turbo aero 20 inch wheels
-metal paint exterior
-glass roof (The glass roof is kind of mandatory to be able to use the rear seats.)
-adaptive cruise control (is it unacceptable in 2022 that his is not standard)
-heated front seats
-2+1 rear seats

Paid about 92000 euro including VAT.

Ride quality is good with the standard adaptive suspension. Power is fine for normal public roads.
My car is +90% the same as a Turbo S that costs double.

I don't miss any option. Except for maybe sometimes keyless entry. If that becomes software upgradable, I would buy it.

As pointed out above, cost is purchase price minus eventual sale price. It does therefore depend where you sell it. Many of the WBAC type places don’t ask for detailed spec so you might do well there on a low spec car.

When I sold my last car (Macan) I looked at what others on the forum had done. Basically the actual depreciation was the same on a well specced GTS as a less well specced SD. It seems pretty consistent. Obviously the percentage fall was lower on a high price car but the total fall in value was very similar. I suspect the same may well apply to a Taycan.

Model also matters. If I put my 4S spec with £15k extras into a Turbo spec, I only need £5k extras due to much of my “wanted spec” being standard on the Turbo.

So I would say spec what you can afford now and the total loss over time will probably not be much different whatever you do. But you might enjoy a higher spec car more - only you will know that!

I have a base RWD and LOVE it. I wanted to stay around 100K but actually spent closer to 115K.. Must have add ons included performance battery plus, surround view, and power folding mirrors since I have a tight garage. A couple cherry on tops included air suspension (amazingly smooth ride), Bose speakers, and just added stealth PPF. 0-60 is very good but not great. That being said highway merging and lane changing/passing with acceleration authority is GREAT. I love my wife more than my car….but it’s pretty close.

A stripper Porsche is still better than a regular car at the same price, IMO.
Are you trying to say that strippers deserve respect too?

im with you on that, i spec'd my RWD with a shit ton of options. i drove a rwd with and without air suspension and they are 2 diff cars, i need the ability to raise to enter the ramp at work, and with my wanted specs a 4s was out of range, so i went with the rwd with a bunch of add ons. still 2+ months away from getting it. production on it will start in like 20 days.
