Hey there,

I was looking at a CPO Taycan 4S with adaptive cruise. I was under the impression I could add Innodrive via function on demand.

To be thorough, I asked the Porsche dealer just to be sure and they told me that I would be unable to do so.

Are certain cars not eligible? I thought all Taycans had access to this functionality.

Only if it has Adaptive Cruise Controle.
and TBH if it has ACC you don’t really need PID. ACC is enough.

I did that for my used CT, and PID worked just fine.
Or rather, the trial subscription installation of PID, and also ALK, worked just fine.
Kept the ALK once the free trial run out.
Discontinued the PID subscription long before then. And used it only once or twice, before agreeing with the U.S. consensus on it here.
Overall, on four German cars (VW Arteon, A6 Allroad, i4, and CT) this is the only ADAS feature that I have disliked.

If it has ACC, you'll be able to activate ALK and Innodrive as FOD. I activated both for a 3 months trial but will keep only ALK. Innodrive is frustrating.

Thanks everyone - and yes, I think I'd probably be satisifed with ACC + lane keeping vs. full Innodrive.

Sounds like the dealer is mistaken - not shocked.

Even though the majority opinion on this Forum is the PID (innodrive) isn’t working well, for me, and in Europ, it is a great tool that I use daily in heavy motorway traffic, BUT provided that:
- ALK (active lane keeping) is also activated
- automatic speed adaptation is disabled.

i think both ALK and PID can be downloaded (FOD) for all cars that have the radar in the front (the big circle on the attached picture).

I have ACC and ALK but not InnoDrive. I noticed that when I set ACC in "speed limiter mode", it tries to detect/assume the speed limit. Which works quite erratic in my experience.

I did not find the speed limiter very useful nor convenient, but it was a nice way to test how good (or bad, actually) the speed limit detection or guestimate is in the Taycan. And I believe it's quite bad.

Your post seems to imply that you agree with that ... however, now I am confused, what additional feature does "PID" have if you have automatic speed adaptation disabled?

Or did I misread and do you mean that you find ACC a great tool, not PID or InnoDrive?

To complete : I activated both and they are still active. And I deactivated auto speed adaptation.

If you have ACC you can add inodrive. I have inodrive but never engaged it. Haven’t found it to be useful all it does is constantly slow me down to the new speed limit. Now active lane keep and active cruise yes those are great.

PID (innodrive) does much more than adapt the vehicle’s speed to the speed limit:
- manages the car semi-autonomous in moderate to heavy motorway traffic.
- in heavy stop & start traffic the car stops, starts and follows the car in front (even without painted lanes).
- prepares to take a planned exit from a motorway..
- when a roundabout comes up, the car slows down
- gives a warning for for a sharp turn.
- suggests the speed limit (but speed change disabled), which can be triggered (or not)
Admittedly, it takes a while to find all features and trust the system, but it really works well (in Europ)

Given the total chaos of speed limits in Belgium (pure mismanagement), PID doesn't detect what the the correct limit is, and as it seems no-one sticks to the limits anyway (as they are just a way to tax people, rather that manage safety), braking for a speed limit change causes danger.

So, I have disabled the PID feature that adjust the speed automatically to a changed speed limit, but use the rest of the features daily. I wouldn’t enjoy driving a Taycan without iit in heavy traffic, just like I wouldn’t fly an aircraft IFR without autopilot.

hope this helps?

Thank you for clarifying all of the initialisms. Many of us are over 50 and do not speak in code like those under 50..

Many enthusiastic Porsche drivers are not under 50…. (Me neither). :)

Agreed. ACC provides the level of control I like without taking too much control over my driving like I found PID does.
