Ambient lighting - what’s lit without it?

Let me know how it goes. I don't need the colors, however would be nice to have the fancy Burmester speakers grille illuminated.

Really wonder why Porsche didn't offer this option as FOD, it cost them exactly $10 for LED's.

I have a feeling the extra LED driver in the door card will illuminate the silver Burmester grill. The single driver is at the opposite end so the light fades from back to front.

I’ve covered this in another thread as my car came without it and it was something that I had spec’s on my original order.

What you get:
Lower door pockets on all the time.
Door handles on all the time.
Footwell lights on with roof lights. Then they go out.

That’s it.

This is correct. I specifically didn’t spec ambient lighting and am happy with the decision. I didn’t find the Taycan’s implentation that attractive with it just being more of a flood of light vs. strips like in newer BMWs. Also in general prefer a more dim cabin at night overall. I think the fact that lower door pockets and door handles get white ambient already is enough for me as far as a premium look

It’s not the most amazing ambient lighting option in the world that’s for sure but for the price of it, I’d rather have it.

I was also afraid that I’ll miss extended ambient light. In the end, I don’t even notice the lack of that

Here’s a bit of progress with my little project.

This is a generic fibre optic strip connected at both ends to two OEM Porsche LED drivers. These are the standard drivers already found inside the door card that provide light for the door pocket and door pull (wired up to a 12v DC power supply).

My plan is to install the strip in the void inside the door card that lights up the leather/racetex section below and take a feed from the existing door pocket driver.

The void (the space where the OEM ambient lighting strip would be if spec’d) is is too big to just stuff the fibre optic strip in so I plan to use so foam rod to fill it and then hopefully squeeze the fibre optic strip in place and the. Just use a bit of hot glue on the inside of the door card (where the ends come through) to hold it in place.

The result should hopefully be the same colour of light as the door pocket thanks to me using the same driver units.

Ended up ditching the strip and used 12v LED tape, stuck inside the void where the ambient strip would be. Took a feed from the door handle light. Stuck with cool white to match the rest of the interior lighting. They're dimmable and dim up and down via the controls on the PCM.

Wee bit too bright so I'm going to put an inline dimmer on them to get the brightness to match the door pocket lights that are already there.

Both fronts done. Just need to do the rears.
