Automatic air recirculation

Does anyone have any solid evidence that the automatic cabin air recirculation actually works? We had some miffy stretches en route today. Manual says the icon in the center console would turn blue when activated. Nothing. Outside temp was around 9C. The only way it seemed to work was manually.

I noticed that as well. I have never seen this work automatically in all my 3 cars and I have Ionizer optioned on all of them. I turn it on manually and wonder if simplest air cleaners can detect bad air and start working and a car this sophisticated does not have bad air sensor to block outside air and start internal circulation automatically. The manual says it will do it automatically.

It requires manual activation when ambient temp is 5C or below.

AC must be in Auto mode.

Could be that the air quality did not meet the criteria required to trigger - not clear what that might be but typically smog or exhaust fumes. I don't think any and all bad odours are one of them.

Never had it turn on by itself in switzerland, despite the cow shit on the fields making you want to keep driving out of the country.

So I don't think "bad smells" is the criteria, but more on the pollution size, think an air filter sensor.

Wow. If it doesn't activate when they are muck spreading, what exactly needs to happen for it to engage? I am used to this feature from my old BMW and that would certainly smell a cow. It would also engage whenever I drove thru a tunnel.

Try again in the height of summer when the ambient is higher - part of the issue may be due to the chance of misting the windows (another parameter to determine if auto recirc should be activated).

Nope. I live in Scotland were the air is clear and roads not congested.

Simply quoted from the Owner's manual how the feature is designed to work.

I've never seen it work on my 911 or Macan either.
