Hi everyone, I’m picking my Taycan 4s up next week, it’s a late 2021 built car with so many options I couldn’t be happier. It also has 3,600kls so I want to make sure I keep it well looked after.

What change rate should I max out the car too? When I had a Tesla I changed it to 60%, I was told it’s best for the battery. Is the Taycan the same?

Thanks

80% is the recommendation from Porsche but most of us will probably nudge that to 85%.

I also charge at home to 100% when I know I'm going to use the car on a long run that day. I would not leave at 100% for days on end.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I will not be using it daily so I will keep it at 80 max then.

Check out the video by Jeff Dahn in the first post here, to get some more insight in good charging routine.

As stated you will be just fine with charging up to 80%. It probably is over cautious to change such routine, but aim at charging around 50% +/- 20 or 30%. Really treating your battery very well probably 30% to 70% is best.

Main recommendation is to not leave the car at very low SoC (5%) or at full charge (100%) for prolonged times.

I charge my Taycan to the Porsche recommended 85% (max recommended daily charge in my User Manual) whenever the car is parked at home, no unusual degradation issues to speak of. My wife's Q8 etron gets recommended 80% every night too, also no unusual degradation. Both charge at 19.2KW at home if that matters to you. I also drove Teslas (4 Models S'es) over a span of a decade (2 at a time, his and hers), longest one I owned was near 8 years, charged them all to max recommended daily charge of 90% whenever cars were parked at home - degradation was minimal after even 8 years. I've usually charged all of them to 100% before a long trip (you can use Taycan timers to hit 100% just before departure), and often into high 90's during the trip (I like driving fast, which chews up electrons, plus I like having a buffer to make it to an alternate charger in case the one I planned to use is out of service).

So after well over a decade of EV driving, really not worried about it, especially that all the cars have had a decent battery warranty (2 of the Teslas had 8 years/unlimited mileage). I've never ran out of charge yet, not have experienced unusual battery degradations, and I have done North America coast-to-coast drives multiple times and other up-down west coast trips as well (heck, when I picked up my brand new Taycan, I drove it home 3,500 miles in the middle of winter).

I will be interested to see how charging works out for me.

My last EV had a 77kwh battery, max motorway range of 250 miles.

I would have to charge twice a week (effectively) to 100% at home, before i set off for work and then top up from around 20% to 60% on the way home at Ionity.

At that time, charging at Ionity was cheaper than charging at home.

Now I'll have a much larger theoretical range, but will still require charging to near 100%, so that I can do there and back on one charge (270 miles approx).

Obviously cold winter days figures go out the window.

270miles in a 2024 Taycan (J1), especially in a winter, is a big stretch. Maybe if you can hypermile along the way. Just in case, have a DC charger along the way, though most optimal solution, presuming you're staying at your destination for a bit, would be to charge there, however slow. For example if you go to work and can charge there from a Level 2 EVSE.

It's a J1.2 RWD, so I'm hoping to exceed 270 for a decent chunk of the year in the UK. I live in the midlands and only commute south, so we don't get that much cold weather in reality.

I can't charge whilst I'm at my destination unfortunately, as that would solve any range problems I have.

People have plugged their cars in at the car park and subsequently been in trouble with our employer.

Umm, that may be a tad optimistic but good luck.

I probably am being a little optimistic TBF, but id rather be that way and take a gamble. Given the discount, I can give it a go for a year and not lose too much if things don't go well.

I'm only going by the real world range tests I've watched. It was either 3.7 or 3.5 m/kwh average, at M1 speeds in heavy rain for periods of time. That will definitely do me ?
