I think I may have figured out the issue. I had both the my Porsche and Porsche connect app installed. The timer showed up properly in the Porsche connect app, but I received an error when looking at the timer in the My Porsche app. When I deleted the connect app and created the timer in the my Porsche app it seemed to have started working.

can’t figure out how to create a profile in the my Porsche app, so I just did that in the car.

I have both apps and no issue with conflict just unreliable functionality. If you can be bothered try reinstalling or better still use the My Porsche web site rather than the app on your phone and you'll get the full feature set and more.

The apps are just awful imho.

Did you ever check them in the car? If not, that would have been interesting.

I did check them in the car and the timer showed up. I never did try making the timer in the car though. I’m going to test a bit more with both apps to see if I can reproduce it.
