I don't have passenger display but how do you ensure that the Apple Music plays via PCM and doesn't default to CarPlay ?
The passenger display cannot control CarPlay, but it can control the Apple Music PCM app. Not sure how to tell without it.

Has anybody managed to have car play on one iPhone and a Bluetooth connection for calls on another iPhone at the same time?

If you log in to Apple Music from the PCM it shows up as an audio source separate from CarPlay.

I have logged in from the PCM, but every time I log in I always also have my phone with me and the Apple Music from the PCM somehow gets all the playlists on my phone, and makes me think it wouldn't work without the phone.

I suppose I either need to log in and drive around without my phone, or maybe manually force log out from Car Play (it pretty seamless starts up every time I get in the vehicle on wireless connection).

It works without the phone. It is pulling your playlists from your Apple Music account on the cloud. That is why you are seeing the same content.

I find that mine auto switches over to CarPlay but I can easily force it back using the music section of the PCM and the Apple Music app built in there. The playlists and content is exactly the same though. It tend to have different queues loaded on both the PCM version and the CarPlay version which always easier switching.

Do you all have an Apple Music icon in Media to use Apple Music. I do not and have to use Car Play.

Another tip: if charging your phone while using wireless carplay, use the rear seat plugs. If you connect via the center console USB it may cause operational issues with wireless carplay.

I tried using wireless charging in the console with a iphone 12 and the phone overheated within a ~20 minute drive.
Yep same here, phone overheats and shuts down using wireless charging and CarPlay. Been using rear power plugs and works fine. Been thinking of taking the case off to see if that makes any difference. I have an iPhone XS Max.

Another point I want to mention is the car charges my iPhone INCREDIBLY quickly. A charge from 6% to 80% took ~12 minutes. (rear seat port)

Alright you guys answer me this: I can see how to shuffle songs when I'm in Carplay mode, it's right there at the top of the PCM display. But for the life of me, I can't see how to shuffle songs when I'm in Apple Music. You can select songs and the PCM lists those songs alphabetically, but there is no shuffle mode that I can discern like in Carplay. So the question is, how do you shuffle songs when you're using Apple Music instead of Carplay?

Answer wins a free toaster.

I am tempted to run down to my car and figure this out. I could really use a new toaster.

First time poster here. 2020 4S and really love the thing. But I have noted that wireless CarPlay typically takes about 1 min to connect after starting up the car. Lately have noticed it is more buggy and doesn’t always connect - even after waiting and trying a couple of the connect buttons. Wonder if new software update might address this? Annoying if you hop in car to do a conference call and have to wait 1 min to connect. Hoping for perfection here but my sights for software items are probably a bit too high. Other thoughts welcome.
