For years I've noticed a certain courtesy among Mercedes drivers (being myself one), specially on intersections, merge lanes etc. Never understood if it was conscious or subconscious but over the years, there has been a measurable positive difference between the amount of MB drivers that have let me merge lanes or given way at an intersection versus other brands. For some reason golf drivers were the opposite towards my car.

I don't have the Taycan for long (less than a month) but the other day I was picking up lunch and used a secondary road when suddently a Panamera appeared from the opposite direction. We were pretty far out to recognize each other models but we both knew the other was a Porsche by the 4 dot daylights. The Panamera flashed his high beams as it passed by to which I flashed back. I thought it was kinda nice, I don't know. I haven't noticed the same from Macans or Cayennes yet but to be fair, there aren't a lot of Porsches around here. Well kinda, I see like 3-4 a day max.

What is your experience?

There was a time when Bimmer drivers would wave at each other (but not Bimmer to Beamer). With Porsche, it kind of depends - usually the 911s wave back unless either of the following applies: a) they're in a convertible, b) they're in a latest gen or high trim (GT or turbo/s) or c) they're in a desirable air-cooled one - longnose or 993. (And, of course, I've seen exceptions.)

Boxster/Caymans seem to be friendlier than the Elfers on average, but then there are fewer generations. Old watercooled are by far the friendliest - 924, 944 and even the odd 928. (Yeah, I know, they're not "real Porsches" so they don't count.)(<- sarcasm) I'm not seeing that many 356s (outside of events, that is).

The Macans never ever wave back - in fact, they're trying hard to avoid eye contact if they're in a GTS+ trim. Old Cayennes are a mixed bunch, and new Cayennes are probably the snobbiest.

(No, scratch that.) I have never ever once gotten a wave back from another Taycan owner. I know a few local ones, and they're great people, but apparently I haven't bumped into them while out and about.

So you do wave them?

its an old tradition

but since the age of the Cayenne and Macan not so much
It is a very old tradition....................I remember reading about this in a Porsche history book. The tradition started in Europe with the 356 cars and carried over to the U.S at some point in time. My first Porsche was a 1990 911 and I noticed that other 911 drivers would 'flash' me and I decided to carry on the tradition. As with other commentators I find that the SUV drivers just don't get it.................but rest assured if I see you approaching I will give you a 'high five flash'!?

I'll blow a gasket if Porsche owners start leaving trinkets (Ala the Jeep duck) on each other's vehicles . . .

Not in Sweden. People would not know what to do if a stranger waved at them, they would probably get scared.

I just about remember that it used to happen in the UK.

Courteous is relative, but it highly depends on the individual, but I’ve had people be the opposite when driving, and people be very nice.

I think it depends on rarity, when I got my Model 3 in 2019 most others waved, now they are as common as muck. My hobby is classic Minis and everyone in any classic car waves. I’m collecting my GTS today and hoping the waving resumes ?
