Greetings all,

How have everyone's DD'ing experiences been? Any concerns with damage (ranging from the low-slung nature of the car to random people dinging the car in parking lots), adding a bunch of miles, wonky EV-related issues, or anything detrimental compared to a traditional DD?

It is ours daily driver with about 5000 miles on it. So far no major issues other than always wanting to speed in it. The lift mode is a must whenever going over an incline or decline. I wish it let you turn it on over 20lb. Range is a nine issue for us also. From my experience, people have been pretty careful around it and just stare.

I’ve had the car for 1 year and 12,500 miles. It’s my first (and only) EV.

Mostly no issues as a daily driver. I would not be concerned. I know there are some that report various issues, but that will be the case with any car. I would buy again without a second thought.

The only thing I’ve experienced as a negative that is EV specific is an occasional failure to charge. This is usually resolved by unplugging and replugging the cable. I don’t have a time of use plan, so I plug in whenever, and can usually catch and fix the issue when it happens, but if I was on time of use and it charged while I slept, it would be more problematic to awake to an uncharged vehicle.

It’s unfortunately inherent to EVs as compared to ICE. Where as an ICE vehicle has a passive receptacle for fuel, an EV has an active component that allows a single point of failure that can prevent charging. Also, the longer unmonitored duration of charging allows the potential for an issue to occur that isn’t detected until it’s too late (e.g. you don’t find out the car is not charged until you go to leave).

It’s maybe happened half a dozen times over the course of a year, so not extremely common, but more common than in any ICE vehicle I’ve ever had, which is zero occurrences.

Overall, I wouldn’t let this deter you, but thought I’d mention it. There are numerous ways in which an EV is simpler and has less that can fail compared to an ICE vehicle, this just isn’t one of them.

My PCM crashes very other time I drive it which is really annoying. Other than that, fantastic car to spend time in, cruise with the family and thrash when I’m on my own. Plus launch control

The only relevant question is: can you afford a $150k daily driver? If yes, then there’s nothing else special about the car relative to DDing except that the lift is essential.

I DD mine with over 20k miles so far and really few problems. I always park far and away from people whenever possible, it’s what I have always done. Use that raise feature for sure and be careful pulling up forward into spots by using the camera to keep off the curb. My car still looks better than new, PPF up front and ceramic the rest, and I’ve DD cars for years that stay like new by taking care of them. Rock chips will happen, despite your best efforts, door dings will happen, curb rash and such too. If you can afford this car, you should be able to afford occasional upkeep on those items as long as they dont happen ALL the time. Tires will likely be your biggest expense. Low maintenance on an EV is great! Enjoy and carry on, cars are meant to be driven!

I appreciate the responses! I'm definitely looking forward to the low maintenance and free EA charging. Based on everything I've read about folks' experiences, I may never go back to DDing and ICE car. I definitely plan to keep one for weekend jaunts though.
