Hi All. To install any dashcam, do you need to have the dashcam preparation done by Porsche or can be done at a later stage via a shop?

The dash cam prep is only for preparation for installing the Porsche branded dash cam. I don’t think you can use for other brands.

So you can get a shop to fit a different brand for you without it. Or you can be brave and do it yourself with a simple one like FITCAMX as you don’t need to run wiring in panels etc.
more complicated ones deffo a shop job I’d say.

Don't need the porsche prep, you can easily do it yourself. It's really easy. The hard part is removing the A pillar. And really, that just require pulling really hard. You just got to have faith that it wont break, and just pull it with force. Wiring is super simple.

Thank you. Which dashcam would you suggest?

I installed a Fitcamx front and rear two years ago. It would stop recording after a week and needed to be rebooted frequently. I contacted Fitcamx, and they provided me with a new firmware that fully fixes the bug. I still check that the camera is working, and it has been the case for over three months now.

You can if you want to. I am using the pre-wire for my 2 channel Blackvue install, even powered a radar detector from it.
Illustrated guide to using Dashcam Prewire for 3rd party dashcam and other accessories

This saved me having to run new wiring from battery and between front and back windows. How much work that is depends on how hidden or factory look you want it. You can install a dashcam in 10 minutes if you don't mind seeing the wires inside the cabin.
