Hi all,

when I finish a DC charging session by terminating it on the public charger's screen, then hit the release button next to the charging port, it usually takes a good minute or two before the cable is unlocked.

Is this standard behavior that you are also seeing for it to take this long before I am able to unplug?

This behavior doesn't occur on my home charger where I am able to unplug right away.

both my taycans are like 10-20 secs after I hear the charger actually stop sending energy. But I’ve been at the fast chargers and seen taycan owners struggling. I offer help and tell them to push the button and wait till you hear the release. Also the car has to be unlocked. Some older people can’t hear the handle release, and it seems they push the button again locking it. My advice is just be patient.

Thank you for those insights. Weirdly the manual actually shows a video which says that you need to unplug within 20 seconds of pushing the release button but mine always takes much longer than 20 seconds.

It is true though that I sometimes end up pressing the button more than once with my impatience so perhaps thats what causes it to take even longer.

Wait til you hear the release or try terminating from button first rather than the other way around.

The communication between car and EVSE must complete before anything is released. On DC charging (due to the higher power involved and attendant risk) it will take slightly longer but never a minute in my experience.

I just DC charged 7 times in two days on a road trip. Each time, the disconnect took around 15 seconds. The other key thing to look for is the little white light (the illumination light to help you see better) over top of the charging plug coming on when it’s done and ready to be removed.

If after pressing the button, the white light does not show, then you need to lock the car with the key fob, then unlock the car with the key fob then press the button for the white light to illuminate so you can release the CCS connector. The very first time charging at EA I was stuck for sometime and had to call EA and they walk me through the steps for the Taycan.

I use DC at EA often. I normally press "Stop" on EA display first, then hit the release button. It usually took less than 3 seconds to unlock.
