With a degree of realism and common sense, plus experience of my previous Taycan, I would go ahead with PPF but only with what is called ‘extended front protection.’ That sees the front third of the car protected, plus those key areas known to be prone to stone chips, including around the windscreen. The Taycan is particularly susceptible at the front end to chip damage given how low the front end is. If you plan to keep the car forever or it’s an investment, by all means, protecting the entire bodywork makes financial sense. Otherwise, I think it’s unnecessary. As to the PPF itself, I’d only use Xpel and I’d only use Invisifilm to apply it. There’s a reason why Rolls Royce and Ferrari only send their NW vehicles there. That they get referred work from Xpel to correct films poorly applied by other providers adds weight to that perspective.

As for ceramic coating, I had my previous Taycan completely coated with Titan after PPF. My own view was this was a waste of money, costing as much as the PPF. If you know how to maintain your car properly or use someone who does, you don’t need it. I couldn’t tell the difference pre and post treatment. To add, there are now some domestically available ceramic coatings you can apply yourself. Their film thickness is less than those only available to accredited detailers. However, you can get similar ceramic film thickness protection over a relatively short time with multiple applications. Don’t forget even the professionally applied ceramic coatings require reapplication after a limited time. And to anyone who comments on the hydrophobicity benefits of ceramics, I had Titan all over a black Taycan previously and it still looked filthy the moment it rained.

Ultimately, it depends on personal preference. From experience, I’d recommend not skimping on PPF quality and application, ask for front extended PPF and save on the ceramic coating. That’s what I’ll be doing this time around whenever the new Taycan finally arrives.
Forgot to ask who does your PPF

UK people waiting for their car, the Seine Highway is due to leave Emden today and arrive at Sheerness tomorrow:

Hopefully some of our cars are on that

@IainSmith I see you're in Leeds so I assume you ordered through the Leeds dealership. I expect their cars go through Grimsby, I'll keep an eye out for any Emden to Grimsby ships
hey soawjo

yes my car is at the port awaiting a vessel to Grimsby

nothing from the dealership today? So guessing it’s still stuck at the port

Ah, right. The only other vehicles carrier I see at Emden at the moment is the Patara but that doesn't have a destination yet:

https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/PATARA-IMO-9491898-MMSI-218818000

crossing my fingers for you!

Edit: Actually Ems Highway is due early tomorrow, that could be the one

https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/EMS-HIGHWAY-IMO-9195133-MMSI-212882000
I hope my car is on one of the vessels.. let’s hope they are destined for Grimsby.. I live 40 from Grimsby so I might nip over tomorrow if the vessel is on route with our cars

Seems a lot of us are pinning our hopes on a sailing from Emden to Grimsby. I just wish I had confidence if there was a sailing that my vehicle would be on the vessel, rather than dockside still awaiting semiconductors.

I’m planning to contact my dealership tomorrow to understand if the export block has been removed. If not, I’d bank on it being at least a further fortnight before it sails.

I’m watching the two named vessels from seawjo like a hawk to see if they get a destination of Grimsby. It would be good to see/know if they have an history of the journey??

Ems Highway went from Emden to Grimsby earlier this month so it is likely to be that one. Also it’s a KESS (K Line) ship judging from the picture which I think is the shipping company VW use to transport to the UK (although I’m not 100% sure of this)

Vesselfinder.com showing both ships still in port surely dealer must have some info or maybe not but seems Porsche are losing the plot re -communications

Do the dealers get a signal (update to the Porsche tracker) once the cars leave Emden i.e does anybody know if the tracker code changes to reflect status change?

Maybe not leaving Emden but they it would make sense if they received notification once it has arrived in the UK. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't though and they have to check manually

I would have thought the dealer gets live tracking updates on the system

I will call my dealer on Tuesday for an update. As stated before, I've pushed my collection to March for the new 22 plate.... so I will start chasing insurance quotes once within the 30 day zone. Honestly, I'm still not convinced I will see this car in March.
