I started getting an error message for the E-brake on the dashboard. It suggested calibration but it did not work out so I decided to open the brakes to see what's going on.
This is what I found. One of the brake shoes had lost its friction material almost completely. I expect it had separated from the metal part due to corrosion.
Easy fix and not a costly one since the shoes are like 40EUR / set and 1,5hours of time. The drums are 210mm in diameter so the shoes for 180mm drums that some websites suggest won't work.

I got a quote to fix this at Porsche and it was a reasonable 1274EUR :D

Oh yeah, these guys are ready to take all your money and leave you without pants

What’s the part number btw? It’d help those who have similar problem like yours in the future

Indeed!

Kinda liked the "offer" for 870EUR to replace the rear pads too :D Crazy, absolutely crazy!

It could be that the pad holder(s) got stuck and rubbed against the drum (is there a drum?) and was worn out due to driving.
Did you check for smooth play of the system?
Yes, everything was smooth and nothing was stuck. Just bad quality parts and harsh weather conditions combined. I also had my front window lifter wires rusted away at 3 years old.

Metelli 53-0726, ABS brakes 9330, Delphi LS2179 for example are suitable. I used Metelli this time.

Mine has just done this, dealers saying shoes have disintegrated and want £1600 to fix, looking to do this myself, how did you calibrate the shoes after installing?

I can understand how it happened unless the actuator was rubbing all the time.
I think eventually with enough rusting going on between the friction material and the brake shoe itself the structure gave up when the e-brake shoes got stuck due to minus degrees and moisture on the drum. That was the last straw and ripped the friction material off from the rusted shoe.

I just replaced the shoes and it was ok when the thickness was restored on the shoes with new friction material. Nothing else was needed than the 30EUR pair of brake shoes to repair this issue in my case.

The drum size (at least on steel brakes) is 210mm so when you are buying the brake shoes please take this into consideration. For example on Panamera 971 the size is 180mm and they WON´T fit.
