Interesting to hear some areas need to have someone flown in or can’t repair on site. My dealer (Austin) said they have the correct tools and staff to do it, only had to get Porsche to review logs and determine whether they would replace cells or the whole battery. They said they do the test in house with their own team.

Also, they’ve got like 3 in right now for the same issue ☠

I know my dealer said the exact same thing yet Porsche still required the specialized tech to come out and do it. The amount of failures is getting a bit ridiculous. It’s far greater then people think and having three people in front of you for the same thing just shows that.

Yeah, it’s hard to say if it’s an egregious percentage of vehicles, but it certainly doesn’t feel super great to see so many real-life examples…

Oh the other hand I really miss it and can’t wait to get it back!

To me it seems like an unacceptable amount for how young the car is. Just imagine when they get older what these failure rates will look like. With the cost associated with these repairs it will make some vehicles not worth the fix. Porsche needs to step up with these failures and either compensate owners or extend the battery warranty out. For me these cell repairs should have a warranty attached with them. My repair was over 43k for not even a three year old car. Thankfully it was a warranty item. Otherwise it would have cost me over 10k a month for it to sit in the shop for four months. Then that doesn’t even cover the amount of depreciation that occurred during that four months. It is an Amazing vehicle and even though it was my wife’s I couldn’t wait to get it back.

I think this will be the case. When I had my modules replaced, my dealer had to fly in a certified Porsche battery technician, and they only had 11 of these folks in the country. You may be one of the lucky one's that has one of these technicians at the dealership, but the odds aren't good. I would contact the dealer and ask this question specifically - it's hard to imagine they could do the replacement without a certified technician, and I wouldn't want them to.

I expect this will happen if they see a clear design issue that led to a revised part for later years. Audi did this a number of times, sending letters to owners extending specific component warranties up to 10 years from new.

Gen2 Taycan has different battery cells, fingers crossed they prove more reliable and Porsche step up and extend warranty on Gen1 batteries.
