I am staying in Flims for two days and then going to Como. I was thinking of taking the Splugen pass. I have done Mountain roads but I read it is quite narrow and hairpins are in tunnels.

Not really factoring in tolls, borders, tunnels and particularly charging stops when the counter doesn’t seem to pause if you don’t turn the car off

So this was normal traveling high way speed in Switzerland / Italy. Nice! I hope I can have similar numbers. CT4, 20 inch, Thule rack and Vector M box.

And if you use any kind of extension cord, then only use it with a low Amp setting (e.g. 8 to 10 A) completely unrolled as it as will otherwise overheat (poor heat dissipation and coil generated inductance), melt and damage possibly the electrical circuit, and possibly your charger.

Yep CT4 predominantly highway speeds from Croatia through Slovenia and Italy to Switzerland. The mountain passes are the most fun in the Taycan although I’m regularly told to slow down on the corners!

Ever been in Italy / Southern Europe before ?. Things are often not as they should be or could have been.

What I will do is plug it in and set at 50% and check after a couple of hours if the socket is heating up. And I wouldn’t charge over night the first time.

In my case the house owner asked me to charge during the day on solar power.

There are so many fast chargers now that I didn’t even take the charging cable on our recent trip. First try of an Enel X Way 300kWh Hyper charger - boy it was quick! Pleasantly surprised it was only 25% more expensive than the Ionity (due to getting charged a per minute fee on top).

I’ve been up to 185km/h with the Porsche roof box, only on the German autobahn, of course! Very impressed with it.

in a little Italian B&B that we regularly visit, the owner has now banned any EV charging because one of your Brit fellows came with a French plug and an adapter and loaded the system at 13A over a night when it was designed for 10A peak, 8A sustained. B&B owner had for over €2k of repairs because the fellow Brit couldn’t spend €100 for the right charger plug (which automatically limits the drawing power).

Bah that sound like a rubbish electrical installation. Honestly.

If I plug in a faulty device that draws too much current I expect the fuses and/or circuit breakers to interrupt supply and stop the building wiring from catching fire.

That's why we have electrical safety laws and regulations. Even in Europe ?

On your multiple trips, did you use it a lot?
It looks handy with the 5 or 10 meter extension cable, and all European plugs in the master traveller set. It also has a type 2 plug and can replace the normal type 2 plug. But quite expensive.

I now have a type 2 charging cable and the PMC+ with Shuko and Italian plug for this trip.

I purchased it while waiting for my Taycan, which is the first EV I've owned/driven. I've used it less than I expected which I think is due to doing accurate planning, increased number of IONITY stations and a decent number of Type 2 AC chargers available at hotel destinations.

I now think of it as insurance against not getting a charge and am happy to bring it everywhere with me.

I now have a type 2 charging cable and the PMC+ with Shuko and Italian plug for this trip.

That's a perfectly good approach as well. I've never looked/used the PMC+ – is it easy to switch over the different plugs? I thought I saw from a user guide previously that it required using a screw driver – is that true?

It has a little screw that fixes the handle to fix the connector. But I didn’t put it in. It works without. I did put it in my car with screwdriver just in case.

I think it is to prevent that someone can open the handle and disconnect the charger from the cable.

Changing the cable is easy but not as easy as the juice booster.

I only have it as a back up. I can charge at the house in Italy. They have solar panels and I can just plug it in during the day. Probably will charge it will take a couple of days but that’s ok

Could you comment on wind noise with the Porsche bars and box. Mine is present but acceptable but present with the Thule bars and box. I think it would be quite annoying at 185.
