Should I be concerned that the ChargePoint Flex is only rated NEMA 3R for outdoor use?
Looking at ordering a ChargePoint Flex to take advantage of the Porshe $600 replacement of the mobile charger reimbursement offer. Already have a Clipper Creek 60 hardwire installed (rated NEMA 4, though not exposed to weather) and would be putting the new one outside on the side of the house so a vehicle at the end of our often crowded driveway can plug in. Our electrician previously installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet at the outside driveway location that we have used occasionally for a mobile charger and says it would be easy to convert to a hard wired station. He suggested the ChargePoint, which seems popular and would (I think) allow us to take advantage of off peak rate scheduling benefits, which our electricity provider doesn’t yet offer but has announced a general plan to do while noting the need for a WiFi enabled EVSE. The location is, however, at times exposed to driving rain and while supposedly rated for outdoor use the description of the limits of 3R concerns me. Should I be worried?
