Hey folks - looking for some perspective from you veteran Porsche owners.

I'm in the market for either a Taycan or a Panamera. Likely a Taycan Turbo/4S or a Panamera GTS.

I really dig the sound of exhaust and I feel like it's one of the more exciting/visceral aspects of a sports car. Not having that seems a little anticlimactic in a Taycan.

Curious if those of you who have had high performance ICE vehicles miss the exhaust note? Does the novelty wear off? Do you still miss it?

Trying to gauge how valuable a burbling GTS exhaust note is vs. the pros of a Taycan (quite, smooth, insanely fast)

Before buying my Turbo S I drove an Audi RS7 for three years. I had the same concerns as you, and I can honestly tell you that I missed the V8 roar for around 15 minutes after driving my Taycan. I do happen to like the Porsche electric ‘roar’ and generally have it switched on. ?

I’ve just moved to a Taycan GTS (with RAS and PDCC). Previously I had a C7 RS6 (with Milltek) for 6 years and before that a B7 RS4 (also with Milltek) for 9 years.
I also was thinking I’d miss the noise.
However, after only a month, you realise it’s not about the noise - it’s the pure joy you get from driving this car. It’s bloody brilliant. I loved hooning the RS’s around, but just is a different league - there is real feeling and connection when driving. You absolutely don’t miss the noise.
Not only that, I love the quiet serenity and comfort. I find there is a much bigger different in difference in driving modes from the Audi - ‘Normal’ is so much more gentle and comfortable, but there are much bigger changes when moving up to Sport and Sport Plus, which over make this car so much more fun!
The only thing I do miss is the drama at high speed. I feel the Taycan runs out of ‘puff’ - a time when in an ICE you are at hug revs rattling through the gears. In reality you aren’t though! You are absolutely flying at insane speed, but you just don’t realise! To me, this means far more fun at the lower (and easier to achieve legally!) speeds.

After 5 years of driving Teslas I missed engine sound and exhaust note so much that I added a McLaren for fun. It was well worth it. After convincing the wife that I am done with noisy exhaust note and will replace it with a Taycan, which I did, I plunged for another McLaren, top down this time ?. Good luck!

I have run V8 sports cars for around 40 years.
I actually prefer the quiet of an EV for normal use and long trips.
I kept a flat plane crank V8 that revs to 8500 and is the best sounding car I had had (and has 3 pedals, a manual gated gearbox and zero driver over-rides. I have kept it for fun thrashes around the countryside.
Summer wasn't that good this year and in the end I didn't use it at all this year, I'll probably sell it.

Many EVs have a faux sound generator which has always seemed pretty naff to me but some people love it.

The only things I don't like about the Taycan is its width - which is a real pain around here, and its weight which the chassis engineers and big tyres hide quite well but is not sportscar like.

I see my car as a fast estate car rather than a sportscar and the quietness makes a great car better IMO.

I was eased in to the transition to full EV via my previous car- Cayenne hybrid- where I discovered that I enjoyed the serenity of battery-only mode, despite giving only 150-ish bhp, more than the full ICE+battery performance.
The aural feedback of the Taycan's motors and drivetrain is plenty enough (without any artificial noise) to hear what is going on, but the relative silence just adds to the impression of effortless performance, which I find exhilarating.

Hi all,
Recently I had a courtesy Taycan during my safety recall check for HV battery seal.
I noticed that with the EV electric sound button in on position it gave out a simulation sound change from 1st to 2nd gear.
As I have EV sound option also on MY23 it only gives electric sound either on or off but with no gear change synthesis.
Does anyone know why this would be or is there an additional setting I can modify to have the gear changes included as was present on my dealer loaner car.
Appreciate all comments

Were you driving in Sport mode on the loaner? Mostly only 2nd gear in Normal, so you wouldn’t hear a simulated gear change in that drive mode generally.

I have truly enjoyed the driving experience on all my previous Porsches.
I am trilled daily driving my Turbo S!!
Sneaky fast, exhilarating, stealthy, noiseless. I don’t miss the roar of gas engines.

I had a RR SVR before my CT4S, which I got a month ago. It did not have the sound option but I had to have it and got Porsche to fit it before I collected the car.
They said I would get bored with it and only have it on now and again, although I have not had it long, I have it on all the time and it is great... LOVE IT

The instant torque makes up for it! I thought I would miss it more than I do.

You got that sound "change" when you switch from Normal to Sport Plus mode via the knob on the steering wheel. You actually "downshift" from second gear (normal mode) into first gear (sport plus mode) for faster accelerations.
