Galileo GNSS supported?

Does anybody know if the Taycan Navigation/PCM uses the EU's Galileo satellites alongside other GNSS providers (US GPS, etc) to determine its position?

I can't find any specific tech specs on what it uses. Something like what Apple shows for its phone's would be very helpful – https://www.apple.com/ie/iphone-12/specs/

I originally joined this forum to ask this question – as I was considering putting an order in for Taycan and my first EV.

It never got answered – so I'll start 2024 by answering my own question:

Yes, the PCM in Taycan does use Galileo GNSS satellites – alongside the US GPS constellation to derive it's position.

You need to read my answer through the eyes of a European: 70% political and 30% technical.

• It is the only global satellite based navigation system that is completely under civilian (i.e. not military) control.
• A small fraction of my taxes pays for it and I want to both support it and get use of it.
• The US Gov tried hard to prevent the EU from developing it (though now there is a high level of co-operation) and its existence has encouraged the US to turn off purposeful signal degradation – meaning it has helped make GPS better for civilian use too.
• It technically performs better than GPS or GLONASS (Russian system) in urban area's with tall buildings – at the cost of being slightly worse in mountains regions – a common use case for my Taycan's journeys.

I never saw your OP, but it would surprise me if the GNSS module within the Taycan wasn’t fully multi-constellation.

Most receivers these days can receive and decode not just the original duo of GPS signals and GLONASS but also Galileo and the Chinese BeiDou service. Some will also support the regional services like QZSS (Japan) and NavIC (India).
