What is the cost of a 911 engine? My thinking on it was, in this time of "just in time inventory" they would not want to have the carrying cost of $50-60,000 batteries laying on a shelf waiting to be purchased. I am not sure they anticipated the failures of the heaters and HV Batteries. I could see the HV cells being in the part inventory, but I had to wait 2 weeks to get the part flown in from Germany (and then they sent the opposite pole!).
No Idea, but having expensive parts for expensive cars in stock is surely a cost of being in the market. You can't charge porsche prices and give British Leyland levels of service. I'm not suggesting they should have vast warehouses full of the things, but similarly being surprised they suddenly need one and having to send of for it is just wrong. As the stock of cars age, then there will be more need going forward. What happens when we near the 7 (?) year warranty for batteries and a small portion of those need replacing.

I agree with you! I paid Porsche price and my car is on week 6 of sitting in the back lot of the dealership with a red electrical error and waiting on the HV Cell (not even the whole battery) while I drive a base Cayenne (glad to have a loaner, but cannot fathom who buys these things as its very bland and basic for $84k). I am not sure that is what I call Porsche premium service. My wife's Chevrolet truck never spent more than 4 or 5 days in for repairs.

Same here, the loaner Macan they gave me is 89,000$, it’s a Base version with a few options. It’s just a boring box to drive around, suspension is horribly stiff, fuel consumption is crazy, I can whine about it all day while my TTS is in service waiting for a new heater. As soon as it gets above 10c I’m taking my car back even if the part doesn’t arrive by that time.

I think the Macan and Cayenne helped keep Porsche financially afloat when they were struggling. There has to be a huge profit margin on them. They are the Mommy SUV's, but very overpriced. Mine has nice wheels, painted wheel arch and the full sunroof and that is it. I can think of a lot of other SUV's that are sportier looking and more power and cheaper.

I am keeping my gas tickets for Porsche Corporate to reimburse me. I spend $25 a month in electricity and the Cayenne takes $50-60 each fill up and I have had 2 so far! lol

Quite a shame that Porsche’s name was stained by those ugly looking boxes to keep the sales. Whenever I go to the dealership 80% of the cars there are Macans and Cayennes. I can’t exactly call this an exciting place to be in nowadays.

Walk around the back into the service yard and you can feast your eyes on Taycans instead!

Mine was out there for a month. They even left eh frunk popped as the 12v had died and they did not want to have to keep jumping the driver fuse box. Porsche NA finally forced them to close it. Seriously, did they think no rain or moisture would get in there sitting outside for over a month.

Outside??? Somehow my dealer has an unnecessary large underground parking where all the proper models are stacked waiting for service :D quite a view to be honest, like M&M’s but made of 911s, 718s and obviously Taycans

Sitting out back by the dumpster. They are a smaller dealership and no interior space other than the showroom and the repair bays. We are in FL so the weather is typically ok, but we get rain and humidity. Do not be lazy, close the frunk as its going to be weeks before you are working on it.

More of a general heater issue question, but I have read on this forum of peoples cars being sat at dealerships for weeks at a time waiting for a part to fix the heater at massive inconvenience to the owner. Question: If it doesn't affect the rest of the car, can you just carry on driving it around until the dealership says the part has arrived? (Assuming there are no issues with manually scrapping the windscreen from time to time.)

I wouldn't advise unless the weather is fine and not cold or rainy.

I've driven mine since the weekend and it is absolutely Baltic when my heater failed (at the dealership!) - even with heated seats and steering wheel - fortunately kept in a garage and not misting.

I get my new car tomorrow (heater failed during PDI 2 weeks ago) otherwise I'd be seeking alternative transport.

Your choice.

The only way i could get mine even looked at within a coupe of months was to send it in via porsche assistance (i.e. recovered). This was what the porsche service advisor said to do when i tried to book it in direct. They said they'd decline to see the car if i just brought it in and would give me an appointment in April.
The service advisor said then the garage had some sort of obligation to give a report on it in 48 hours if it comes in via recovery and that i'll get a rental in its place. Whether i'll then be allowed to have it back until the part is ordered, i've no idea, but suspect that may drop me out of the queue. No idea, but none of it seems very joined up thinking or cost effective for porsche either (i'll be in a hire car otherwise).

I'd certainly prefer to have it back.
