Greetings! I'm not a Taycan owner, but I'm hoping to be. I am looking at 2020 and 2021 Taycans and trying to figure out a few things. I find the number of options and configurations quite difficult to understand. So if anyone has any general advice about my search, I would really appreciate the input!

So far I am looking at a 4S or a Turbo. I just want as many options as possible, and the Turbo seems to have lots. I do not really need that monster of a motor though. A couple of questions:

* I read somewhere that in 2023, all previous year models could get an update that basically brings feature from 2023 to the older models. Is this true?
* I cannot find actual ranges. I think there are 2 battery sizes, what are the ranges of each?
* Again, I read another update that added range to previous years. Is this true?
* Is buying a 2020 or 2021 a good or bad idea if I want to save some coin?
* Are there just 2 radios available? Does the premium package provide an upgraded radio?

Thank you everyone, hope to be a card carrying member soon.

Avoid 2020 cars (all)

All variants apart from RWD (base) and 4S (saloon) have the lower range Performance Battery (PB). Additional range is available if the car has the Performance Battery Plus (PB+) which is standard on all but 2 model variants as mentioned.

MY 20 - MY24:

PB+ - has 93.4 kWh battery, 83.7 kWh useable
PB+ - has 79.2 kWh battery, 71.0 kWh useable

Depending on car configuration (wheel size and rim selection), driving style, ambient temperature, use of AC and so on the estimated range will be variable:

PB - on RWD 19" rims - 200 miles (or so), PB+ - 230 - 250 miles or so
PB+ on 4S and above 20" rims - 220 - 240 miles or so

Warm ambient e.g. LA, SOCAL, Miami - you could get towards 280 - 290 miles on any car with PB+

Consumption data is more relevant and so expect 3.0 - 3.4 miles / kWh on average (and depending on the above conditions).

All MY20 - MY22 cars had a major software upgrade applied which fixed many software issues and introduced the coloured tiles / ICONs in the PCM. The car MUST have this otherwise it won't have been properly maintained.

Premium should incorporate Bose (upgrade) as standard and on top of that you might find a car with the high end Burmeister.

Buyers market so go large and you may actually be able to source an MY22 / MY23 at a lower rate than you might imagine.

There is also a GTS that slots in between the 4S and the Turbo. For me, the 4S provides plenty of acceleration from all street legal and slightly beyond legal speeds, although it won't give you the peel your face back push of the higher models.

I have the Sport Chrono package and would not want the car without it. That package gives you an individual drive setting where you can customize the ride and suspension options, plus a dial on the steering wheel to quickly select any of the drive modes. I would have preferred adaptive cruise control but my car was not optioned with that. Opinions vary greatly on whether ACC is a Godsend or the work of the Devil.

There are a number of options out there, so surf around this forum, grab all the manuals and Good to Know information you can find, and you'll end up with the car that suits you.

Have fun.

2020’s are perfectly fine. All the model years have faults so no reason to skip on a 2020. Only recommend cpo vehicles.

The turbos will typically have more options on them then the 4’s. They also come standard with the larger battery pack which was an option for the 4’s. There are three audio packages the base audio, Bose, and then burmiester. The premium package usually contained the Bose sound system. For me the must have options where sport chrono, rear wheel steer, full leather, ACC, and mission e wheels.

This info is super helpful, thank you!!!

My current EV shows 240 miles on a full charge. Drove once on warm florida highways , got maybe 150 miles until it was empty. So really as long as I can get 200 miles + for real I'd be happy.

I thought this was done for 2024? I have a 2023 with Premium and it doesn’t have Bose.

Seems like it may have depended on the year; the Bose system was part of my 2021 Premium package.

Darn, wish they didn't skip it for the 2023 Premium package - that was the only feature on my wish list that was missing from the build that I bought. It was low priority, so I bought this build anyway.
