I wonder if any Taycan owners have had any problems with their high voltage battery such as this......
I acquired my Taycan Turbo (2020 model, 8000 miles now, bought in the UK) on 29 September, 2023. I have now owned it for 63 days and it’s been on road with me for 27 of those days.
On 3 separate occasions when I required the car it would not start displaying a notice to advise there was no power and to “park safely”. Fortunately I was at home on each occasion. As the car was under guarantee / warranty I called Porsche Assistance who provided an AA rep to investigate the problem. He failed to fix it the first time, arranged a breakdown vehicle to take the car to Porsche and fixed up (with Porsche I presume) a car hire company to provide me with a vehicle while mine was out of action. When the breakdown vehicle arrived the driver, before putting the Taycan on his truck, tried the car’s ignition - and it worked!
At Porsche they investigated, said an electric cell may have had a glitch and I collected the car 2 days later.
Upon a second occurrence, at home, of the same problem I waited a few minutes and was able to then start the car. Fine, I thought - but there’s a problem here so I drove it to Porsche (25 miles away) and asked them to solve the problem. They had the same problem at the service centre, checked everything, disconnected all electrics, reconnected, had the same conclusion and I returned the vehicle they loaned me and collected my car. A few days later same problem; AA attended at my home, organised a hire vehicle for me, followed me to Porsche when I delivered it to them, brought me home and next day the car hire company met me at home and took me to their depot and signed over a hire car to me - which I still have (and all at Porsche’s expense).
The concessionnaire informed Porsche AG, in Germany, of the problem and they have authorised the replacement of the high voltage battery. It seems that an individual cell cannot be replaced.
After some 13 days the new battery has not yet arrived at the service centre. (On eBay a new high voltage battery was being sold for £14000! I imagine a true cost would be in the region of £5-8000 plus labour at Porsche.)
A long story and not yet finished! Any readers or owners of Taycans with the same problem?
And there’s another problem lurking in here: depreciation of the car. While it’s working, fine; when it’s not one is not getting value. Rate of depreciation on an expensive 3 year old Taycan? £1500- 2000 / month?
