I wonder if any Taycan owners have had any problems with their high voltage battery such as this......

I acquired my Taycan Turbo (2020 model, 8000 miles now, bought in the UK) on 29 September, 2023. I have now owned it for 63 days and it’s been on road with me for 27 of those days.

On 3 separate occasions when I required the car it would not start displaying a notice to advise there was no power and to “park safely”. Fortunately I was at home on each occasion. As the car was under guarantee / warranty I called Porsche Assistance who provided an AA rep to investigate the problem. He failed to fix it the first time, arranged a breakdown vehicle to take the car to Porsche and fixed up (with Porsche I presume) a car hire company to provide me with a vehicle while mine was out of action. When the breakdown vehicle arrived the driver, before putting the Taycan on his truck, tried the car’s ignition - and it worked!

At Porsche they investigated, said an electric cell may have had a glitch and I collected the car 2 days later.

Upon a second occurrence, at home, of the same problem I waited a few minutes and was able to then start the car. Fine, I thought - but there’s a problem here so I drove it to Porsche (25 miles away) and asked them to solve the problem. They had the same problem at the service centre, checked everything, disconnected all electrics, reconnected, had the same conclusion and I returned the vehicle they loaned me and collected my car. A few days later same problem; AA attended at my home, organised a hire vehicle for me, followed me to Porsche when I delivered it to them, brought me home and next day the car hire company met me at home and took me to their depot and signed over a hire car to me - which I still have (and all at Porsche’s expense).

The concessionnaire informed Porsche AG, in Germany, of the problem and they have authorised the replacement of the high voltage battery. It seems that an individual cell cannot be replaced.

After some 13 days the new battery has not yet arrived at the service centre. (On eBay a new high voltage battery was being sold for £14000! I imagine a true cost would be in the region of £5-8000 plus labour at Porsche.)

A long story and not yet finished! Any readers or owners of Taycans with the same problem?

And there’s another problem lurking in here: depreciation of the car. While it’s working, fine; when it’s not one is not getting value. Rate of depreciation on an expensive 3 year old Taycan? £1500- 2000 / month?

This is an issue impacting some Taycan owners, including me:

Dreaded Red Electrical System Error & Poll | TaycanForum -- Porsche Taycan Owners, News, Discussions, Forums

While some owners had their Taycan out for months, in the U.S., Porsche USA now has a stock of HV batteries. From diagnosis to full HV battery replacement took 12 days on my 2020 4S+ in October 2023. 34,000 miles at that time.

I consider it a good thing to get the most updated HV battery, with more range too. New HV battery continues under the original 8-year/100,000-mile USA HV battery warranty.

Depreciation is indeed happening on the Taycan, as it is in many electric vehicles. if you have the car you like, consider getting an extended Porsche warranty, which is what I did. I plan on keeping my "classic" Taycan until the next major rework that will include better engineering, software, and battery technology. I'll review the options in 2027-2028, which might include solid state battery technology. I'm assuming Porsche USA will adopt the NACS plug by then, which will be a must for me on my next EV.

It's a terrific car which I tremendously enjoy! Loving it even with the hiccups!

Definitely inconvenient but you are about to get a new battery in a 2020 Taycan. That is great news for you. Congrats!

Yes, I had my high voltage battery replaced in my 2020 turbo. Luckily, I was given a new Taycan Loaner for the duration of the approx 3 month repair/ diagnostic time. The depreciation aspect is countered only with a relatively equivalent replacement vehicle.
Hopefully you are fixed soon.

Today, 28 November, 2023 notified by Porsche Centre that brand new HV battery had been installed, swapped for defective battery. My guess at battery cost was very wrong! Cost on warranty is £35000+ plus labour costs, not known. Since my acquiring the car it’s been 61 days and I have used it for 27 of those days. It’s been 18 days since the car went into Porsche Service Centre until its return. Guarantee on new battery is at 8 years and 100,000 miles from original date of registration, therefore 5 years remaining and about 92000 miles.

Beautiful machine, purred its way home! Excellent support from Porsche.

Consider yourself lucky. I’m over three months without my car and Porsche decided not to replace my battery but instead replace individual cell modules. Would much rather have the battery replaced at this stage.

Interesting that you write that modules are to be replaced. Here, in the UK, Porsche said that modules and cells cannot be replaced as they have not yet developed the battery in such a way that they can do that. This will happen in the future, apparently.

In the US Taycan HV battery individual modules containing groups of cells are being replaced. A Porsche specialist may have to travel to the dealer to do it, but it is being done. Several owners have posted about it in the forum.

I have had two modules replaced in my battery in September. That was done in Stockholm. It looks like there are only a few of the Porsche Centres that are certified to perform the task in each country. Maybe that is what Porsche UK are referring to?? The battery was designed with this in mind when the car was released.
Whether that is a long term benefit or not remains to be seen though.

not yet the wait continues, 15 weeks and counting. Really hoping to get it back next week but I’m not holding my breath.

Just chime in on this one - my 4S is currently with Porsche also and they have just told me today that some of the cells need replacing. The car needs to go to Teesside where they have a partner who is capable of carrying out such works... In a Macan right now but they have a Taycan loaner waiting for me to swap into - eventually!
