Does anyone have any experience charging the Taycan with a Grizzl-E Level 2 charger?

I have seen many chargers recommended within the Forum but I have not heard of this unit until looking on Amazon for a good (basic) home charger. I really don't need the wifi connection just a good charger.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a particular reason not to use the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus supplied free with your car?

I have an Alpha Charger which is made by United Charges and likely has much of the same internals as the Grizzl-e and works works fine with my car. I wouldn’t expect any of the wifi or online stuff to work with any of them though.

+1

I have used my PMC+ that came free with the car to charge my car for almost 10,000 miles now - it has worked perfectly.

Hi Winge,

What needs to be installed / done before delivery for the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus ?? Just getting organized with what to install ready for April - note will be outside garage and open to elements so perhaps not the best choice anyway looking at previous posts...

I installed a Grizzl-E charger in my garage and keep the PMCC in the car with some adaptors for road trips. The Grizzl-E is simple, built like a tank and just works. I’m very happy with it.

I'm not qualified to comment on what you need in US but in UK you would simply get a qualified electrician to run a dedicated 32A (possibly 40A in US) supply run from your existing fuse box to where you want the PMC+ installed. At that location the electrician would also install an appropriate supply receptacle so that the supply cable you get with your PMC+ can connect to it.

The PMC+ will also come with an EVSE to car cable (4.5m long by default) which is used to connect to your car when charging.

Any EVSE would require the same in this typical standard setup.

PMC+ and PMCC (Porsche Mobile Charger Connect) are IP55 rated which can be used outdoors. My neighbour has his PMCC installed outside with no weather protection (wouldn't recommend) and I have mine installed indoors in a Porsche Dock.

Suggest searching the forum as there are many descriptions from US based folk with their installations.

@targaben - apologies - I thought you were US based!

So solution very simple - 32A separately fused supply from your fuse box and terminated in a receptacle for the supplied 'supply cable for industrial electrical outlet (230V, 32A)'. You will also get an additional supply cable for a standard UK domestic 3 pin socket (13A) but only use this when in dire need or when on holiday and there is no charging nearby. 13A charging will take days so therefore use only in times of need.

Extract from std spec of your car:

Give the prospect of providing some weather protection due consideration if only for piece of mind. The PMC+ will sort of fit (intended for PMCC but depth dimensions are less in PMC+ and so will sit recessed) in the Porsche Dock but if you get to that stage you may want to consider an EVSE with greater than an IP55 rating (could get pricey):

IP55
An IP55 rated product is protected against dust ingress that could be harmful for the normal operation of the product but is not fully dust tight. It is protected against solid objects and water jets projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) from any directions.

IP65
If you see IP65 written on a product, this means it is fully dust tight and protected against solid objects. Plus it is protected against water jets projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) from any angle.

IP66
A rating of IP66 means that the product is fully protected against dust and solid objects. Moreover, the product is protected against powerful water jets projected by a nozzle (12.5mm) from any directions.

I do plan to use the free charging unit that comes with the car. I have three homes we travel to so was thinking I would use a base charger in our main house just in case I forget to put the car charger back when we leave the beach house.

I have the Grizzle E Charger. Works perfectly and they have outstanding customer service.
I had one of the early units purchased in 4/21 and the plug was getting stuck in the DC charging port not the driver port. I called them and they replaced the entire unit. Can say enough good things about their Customer Service. Highly recommend.
Thank you, I am so glad to hear the positive feedback. Seemed like a nice unit but had mixed reviews on Amazon so I wanted to check here for a “real” experience feedback.
I will differently order one.

Thanks, that’s a nice unit but honestly I just want a basic unit. All this fancy stuff gives me a headache to get it to work right (-:

There is really no difficult setup. I paid $599 I think and I bought it to be able to easily see what the charger is doing and to adjust the charging current on the screen. If we are using a lot of power at the house I can drop the charger to 16 or 24 amps and not worry about over loading my main. If I want to charge faster I can set it to 40 amps. The unit is still in beta for much of the other options though but I don't care so much about that. I don't have the $1200 Porsche charger.
