Hi all,

My Taycan TS is waiting to get on a ship at Emden right now for shipping to Jacksonville, and I couldn't be be more excited after the long wait. Not sure what ship it will be on yet, but i'll be looking at https://www.vesselfinder.com/ports/DEEME001 obsessively over the next week. Ordered it in December with a March build slot and April delivery, but of course that got pushed multiple times. All things considered, I feel grateful it's coming before the summer factory shutdown.

2 Questions -
1. I placed the order before I had joined the forums, so optioned the PPF online without realizing that factory isn't the best option. The detailer I'm going to use for ceramic coating suggested that I ask the dealer to hold off on the PPF, and let him do the film + coating due to the edge wrap issue, but my SA said the film is coming straight from the factory and isn't being applied locally so I can't change anything. Would be interesting to hear from others on this forum on their experience - did the car come with the PPF from Germany or was it done locally by PCNA at port (or the dealer locally)? Interestingly, the PPF option is gone from the online configurator tool now.

2. Is the Modesta ceramic coating premium really worth it? I'm getting a carrara white metallic car, and plan to keep it for 2-3 year at least, driving it around in rainy southern Florida. Got a $3k quote for all surfaces, which seems right in the ballpark, but wondering if others have an opinion about its efficacy. Also thinking of getting the interior leather protection from Modesta, which might be overkill, but at this point, I'm full yolo mode on protection.

Thanks!

I had Modesta done to an M4 and it was amazing. It shined beautifully . It made cleaning the car a breeze. It didn’t cost 3000 though. It was more like 1500 with a full paint correction first. This was back in 2016-2017 though.

I think the ppf is fitted at the factory, so if your car is already built, it already has the ppf on it.

I have it on mine, definitely wasn't done by dealer, but small chance at the pdi place. It looks fine, but has a few small bubbles i noticed. Dealer can't be arsed to do anything about it despite requests - i suspect because they don't do in house.

$3k for ceramic coating is a huge amount of money for ceramic coating. You could get profession PPF on the front of the car for that price. Ceramic coating is used to keep the car cleaner and make it easier to clean. It doesn’t protect the paint from anything more than minor contaminants. Not scratches or anything more significant.

I plan on doing CQuarrt UK coating on my car when it arrives next month. Total cost for the stuff is $100-150 depending on what you have. Many YouTube videos on how to apply. I would wash/decontaminate the paint, clay bar and do a single stage polish before applying the coating. All in all it would probably take 4-6 hours. If your car already has PPF from the factory the ceramic coating installer can’t do anything to improve the appearance of the paint under the film by polishing so they are just going to coat the PPF.

Just my 2 cents

Yeah I definitely hear you. I got some quotes in the $1.5-2k range for other products, but the Modesta guys control their installer base pretty tightly and create artificial scarcity. I think it's a more labor intensive job than other coatings, and I'm also sure they're charging a premium for their branding. I should mention that the detailer is also doing the interior leather coating, which is probably inflating the quote by $500 or so. Truth be told, it likely isn't that helpful - I just wanted it for peace of mind with all the stories of wear on the outer seat bolster.

Some days I look back and ask why I maxed out on the options - did I really need to pay $300 for under door puddle lights and another $300 for aluminum pedals? But other days, I tell myself that if I'm going to have a mid-life crisis, might as well have a proper one and go full ham. It's a fine line to walk
