Thank you for this great and detailed reply. I’m just curious why you’re replacing your ‘20 so soon, is it a leased car? How is the range on yours now?

Do you really think the big refresh will be in MY28 and not 25? Thinking about how Porsche seems to get 8 years out of a platform, you’re probably right on the money on the big refresh year.

FWIW, as soon as the 4S was announced I ordered one. I’ve worked in tech for my entire career and know the pace of change only increases and that breakthroughs are always just around the corner. All that said, I went all in on my car and the EV experience and have zero regrets. Three years after getting my COVID-delayed Taycan it still turns heads and I get a ton of super positive comments. I came out of a 911 with a 6 speed, which I thought I’d be buried in, but could not love this car more.

There’s always something better around the corner, especially with 2024 MY coming up any day now. I suspect the tweaks will be minimal and big architectural changes to the drivetrain and HV battery will be reserved for the ‘28 MY.

Like others on here I can attest to what a delight it is to own and drive a Taycan. It still feels special to me and it’s such a phenomenal drive.

What options did you get on yours?
I had originally optioned quite conservatively. Then my wife said, “You may be buying your last car. Check all.” So I did. Never look back. Just drive it and love it. I have NEVER thought, “I should have bought a Tesla.”

The only option that I have not benefited from is InnoDrive. But that is because I live in th San Francisco area where daily highway speeds are 75-80 in marked 65. InnoDrive would put me in danger here. I do read that it is helpful in areas with frequent local jurisdiction speed changes (traps).

With the prices on used Tacans dropping and the glut of them at dealerships, you are in a good place if you want to pull the trigger now.

I know you’re right I keep getting updated notifications from AutoTrader for price drops on Taycan. The car dealer I’ve been using said he’s afraid to take them in - they just don’t sell. Kind of worries me.

I think everyone is out, travelling this summer, and the last thing on their mind is purchasing a high-end EV.

Emotions...

Today I went with the wife to a medieval fair about 70km from my home. On my way back (already dark), we took the highway. It was very busy (high season around here) and I was spending my time on the left lane waiting for fiats and golfs to give way for me to pass. This usually happens only whenever a hill approaches and the smaller car drivers realize they can't keep their speed and finally move right.

After a few minutes, while I was in clear violation of all speed laws going up a hill, I noticed another car approaching from behind. 4 dots in each headlight but rounder. Hmm ? curious. What could it be? On a uphill stage? Not a buggy for sure. I moved right to let it pass (and trying to give the example for 99% of the golf cars out there) and then I saw the siluette of a 911 and the characteristic red porsche light bar. The driver moved to the right in front of me and matched my speed. From then on it was a playful slalom between slower moving vehicles for almost 60km. It almost felt like a dance and I can imagine the two rear red light bars looking like UFOs chasing each other. At some point my wife commented "you two should get a room. You're clearly flirting each other" ?.

After 20 minutes or so (no idea really, I lost track of time playing around), the other driver finally reached his exit (one before mine) and flashed his highbeams saying goodbye before turning to his exit. I flashed my hazards lights in return and then proceeded to my exit.

Try that with a tesla. ?

Emotions...

Hey man, no disrespect intended, but I think it’s time to fish or cut bait.

I know the 4S would be just fine. My wife and I put a few hundred km on one and there was never a time were I wished I had more power. When I'm out on my own, I like to play around a bit and do appreciate the extra power especially accellerating off off-ramps. So much fun and it's hard to get a ticket in that situation. It's keeping your foot into it that causes the issues!

Years ago when I got my Tesla I test drove both and anyone that has driven one of those cars, has to admit, the Performance model gives the T the extra bit of personalilty it's lacking. All-hell-breaking-loose acceration, to me, makes up for the mundane nature of the car.

The Taycan's a different story; they all feel so good to drive. Now I know regen's happening I don't care about the one pedal driving, it's not big deal at all.

Why is everyone so against an ipad-like screen to control the car? What hasn't gone to a touch these days? I don't mind the big screen and fine it well organized. On the other hand there's no substitution for a solid high quality button. My old T has two of them, hazzard and glove box. :)

I'm not that concerned about depreciation as I plan to keep my next car for the time I've had this one, for 7 years if I can.

I absolutely LOVE the Mamba Green, omg what an amazing colour, it must be nice to handwash and appreciate the colour and the lines!

Realistically if this car is for a daily or even weekend driving then you don't need faster than a 4S in my view. Many will disagree of course. But for every day, ride and handling, the 4S will be a great car. There's no question the Taycan in my view displays its sporting heritage as well as have a great ride and a solid feel to build quality - its an all rounder without many compromises other than width in the UK. A very elegant modern interior without having an iPad stuck on the dash (which has always put me off Tesla). No question depreciation on high end EV's will be expensive and if that bothers you then a Tesla Model Y will work perfectly well. I had a number of 911's through the 80's and 90's and it's been a great experience so far returning the Porsche brand - it feels a special car without being outrageous unless you consider Mamba green is outrageous?

I've read your message a few times and really like how you live. You bought one on day one, have another on order and look forward to the '28...you're living the life. I get so wrapped up in the tech, the updates, features, etc that I know aren't that important, it's about the drive. I'm sure we'd get used the Nav and interface in a few weeks of living with it. Thank you for your reply and insight, it's really appreciated.
